clock sync/drift
Hi, We have a little over 100 servers, almost all running CentOS 5.7. Virtually all are Dell servers, generally a mix of 1950s, R610s, and R410s. We use NTP and/or PTP to sync their clocks. One phenomenon we've noticed is that (1) on reboot, the clocks are all greatly out of sync, and (2) if the PTP or NTP process is stopped, the clocks start drifting very quickly. If it was isolated to one or two servers, I'd dismiss...

lpxelinux hangs on R610 with recent BIOS, works with old BIOS
Decided to try out lpxelinux on a couple of Dell R610s. Both versions 5.10 and 6.03 hung on a server with fairly up-to-date BIOS (6.1.0), but work fine on another R610 with old BIOS (1.2.6). Watching the TFTP log and running tcpdump on the PXE server, I see it download pxelinux.0 (renamed from lpxelinux.0), but it never even tries to transfer anythin...

PERC6 driver on CENTOS 5.3
We have DELL R900 server with PERC6/i and PERC 6/E in it. O.S. is CENTOS 5.3. I download latest PERC 6 driver from DELL site and tried to installed it. I have error messages said : Module version 00.00.03.21 for megaraid_sas.ko is not newer than what is already found in kernel 2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 (00.00.04.01-RH1). Does CENTOS 5.3 come with PERC6 driver? I knew in CENTOS 4.X PERC 5 or PERC6

Just an interesting data point
SO, my full load on my core UPS is two Dell R610s, one Sun X4540, one HP DL360p gen8, two six-core Thuban-II workstations plua their monitors, and the network stack and KVM. The APC SU3000RM (3KVA) that blew up last week considered this to be just short of 60% load. The new Cyberpower PR3000 (also 3KVA), wqhich operates at a 90% power factor, con...

What is the purpose setting console=hvc0 in the dom0 grub config?
Howdy, I recently went through a frustrating experience trying to get Xen 4 running on a CentOS 7 system. After a fresh install, fully updating the system, rebooting, then trying to install Xen4CentOS it would fail to boot into the 4.9 kernel, sitting there with a blinking cursor indefinitely. I thought it was a failure with grub, but it turns out this was set in the grub config:

Check the BIOS to see if Hyperthreading is disabled. If so, enable it. I had some Dell server (Dell R710s and R610s) that I finally figured out would not boot like you describe when HT is off for some reason. 64-bit CentOS - your experience
Hello, one of our developers is developing his Web applications (PHP-based+MySql) on 64-bit Fedora. He would like to use the same, 64-bit environment on CentOS. I am not against 64-bits (we use it for many, many years using Solaris) but what concerns me is the stability of 64-bit Linux. Can you share your experience regarding stability of 32-bit and 64-bit CentOS ? Does anybody use 64-bit CentOS
