lpxelinux hangs on R610 with recent BIOS, works with old BIOS
Decided to try out lpxelinux on a couple of Dell R610s. Both versions 5.10
and 6.03 hung on a server with fairly up-to-date BIOS (6.1.0), but work
fine on another R610 with old BIOS (1.2.6).
Watching the TFTP log and running tcpdump on the PXE server, I see it
download pxelinux.0 (renamed from lpxelinux.0), but it never even tries to
transfer anythi...

Bug#786936: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64: Upgrade dom0 from wheezy to jessie on Dell R610 results in dom0 unaccessible with xen_netback issue
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64
Version: 4.4.1-9
Severity: critical
Justification: breaks the whole system
Dear Maintainer,
After upgrading the R610 server from Debian 7 to Debian 8, the dom0 becomes unresponsive via ssh after an hour or so, although the domUs still remain accessible.
Initially we thought it may be a disk space issue on / or /boot so action was taken to increase those petition sizes but it has no effect.
We get the following...

Accessing console for Xen 4.0 with 2.6.31 pvops kernel on Dell Poweredge R610
I am currently using a Dell PowerEdge server R610 with Xen 4.0 installed and
the 2.6.31.13 pvops kernel.
I am accessing the server console using the iDRAC KVM feature of the dell
management console.
Does anyone know how to configure the console option in the grub menu so
that all the boot messages can be seen on the
mgmt console?
Currently I can v...

OT: DELL PERC H200
Does anyone know if a PERC H200 is a real RAID controller? I'm about to
build a box to CentOS 6.5 (it was Windows...) with RAID 6 on Monday, and
this PE R610 has this.... I'm familiar with PERC 6 and 7s, but just dunno
'bout this one.

bnx2 losing connectivity
Hoping someone else has seen this before.
I have a few dozen Dell R610 systems with CentOS 5.2 that are
using kernels from 5.3 and 5.4 (2.6.18-128.1.10.el5 & 2.6.18-164.6.1.el5),
that at random lose layer 2 network connectivity either partially
or totally. Running tcpdump on the interface reveals only ARP
broadcasts, no responses. Switch reports no packets being

Infiniband performance issues answered?
In IRC today, someone who was hitting that same IB performance ceiling
that occasionally gets reported had this to say
[11:50] <nissim> first, I ran fedora which is not supported by Mellanox

[11:50] <nissim> so I moved to CentOS 6.3
[11:51] <nissim> next I removed all distibution related infiniband rpms
and build the latest OFED package

Running Centos 5.4 with KVM on a Dell R610 server and I'd like to

Any recommendations on Perc H700 controller on Dell Rx10 ?
Hi folks:
At work, I have an R510, and R610 and an R710 - all with the H700 PERC
controller.
Based on experiments, it seems like there is no way to bypass the PERC
controller - it seems like one can only access the individual disks if
they are set up in RAID0 each.
This brings me to ask some questions:
a. Is it fine (in terms of an intelli...

Running on Dell hardware?
I have a Dell R710 which has been flaky for some time. It crashes about
once per week. I have literally replaced every piece of hardware in it, and
reinstalled Sol 10u9 fresh and clean.
I am wondering if other people out there are using Dell hardware, with what
degree of success, and in what configuration?
The failure seems to be related to the perc 6i. For some period around the

Recommended Best way to Upgrade/Update Xen
This might be a silly question for most, but since Xen is ever so
changing with regular changesets and updates, what is the "best
practice" way to upgrade / update or even downgrade Xen?
1.) Is it by booting into regular Linux Kernel without Xen, do a
complete uninstall of the old Xen, than install the newly compiled Xen?
2.) Is it by booting into regular Linux Kernel without Xen,

ZFS slows down over a couple of days
Hi all,
I have exchanged my Dell R610 in favor of a Sun Fire 4170 M2 which has
32 GB RAM installed. I am running Sol11Expr on this host and I use it to
primarily serve Netatalk AFP shares. From day one, I have noticed that
the amount of free RAM decereased and along with that decrease the
overall performance of ZFS decreased as we...

Good write, but slow read speeds over the network
Hi all,
I am running Netalk on OSol snv134 on a Dell R610, 32 GB RAM server. I
am experiencing different speeds when when writing to and reading from
the pool.
The pool itself consists of two FC LUNs that each build a vdev (no
comments on that please, we discussed that already! ;) ).
Now, I am having a couple of AFP clients that access this pool eithe...

hardware error 0x80000021 on Ubuntu 12.10, need advice
Hi,
On a DELL r610 (Intel Xeon L5520) and a Windows guest I have an
hardware error. The bug is well known[1][2] and seems fixed with the
package 3.5.0-16-generic. But I use 3.5.0-30-generic. Do I need to
upgrade to 13.10? Or just the kernel ? Or modify the options of the
kvm module?
Thanks.

Xen and I/O Intensive Loads
...a to put an I/O load like this in a domU? Unfortunately mapping the entire F/C card through to the domU isn''t really an option - the FC card accesses other SAN volumes for the Xen host, so it needs to be present in dom0.
I''m running Xen 3.2.0 on SLES 10 SP2, on a Dell PowerEdge R610 server. The FC HBA is a QLE2462, dual-channel 4Gb FC card. Any help, hints, etc., are greatly appreciated!

194 Kernel Panic; 164 is Fine; How Do I Debug?
I have a machine that has worked fine for years on CentOS5.
kernel-PAE-2.6.18-164.15.1.el5 is the last "works fine" kernel, but
kernel-PAE-2.6.18-194.3.1.el5 crashes at boot every time.
I tried banging on the side of the monitor to no avail.
All kidding aside, here are pictures of my monitor when booting 194 in
case that is helpful.
