Asterisk and cellphone/GSM voicemailbox
Does Asterisk know when it hits a voicemailbox ?
When calling to a cell-phone or GSM, after some rings and no pickup you
arrive at a voicemailbox.
If Asterisk does not know it's a voicemailbox that has answered the
call, the voicemailbox will contain 60minutes of 'silence'. This is very
expensive 'silence'.
How to avoid this ?

Uverse, Asterisk and SIP
I've just got Uverse installed. I had dsl, but ATT insisted I couldn't
keep my old dsl, but had to switch to Uverse internet - vdsl.
My setup:
linux box as router : 10.10.11.252
asterisk box: 10.10.11.180
10.10.11.252 is multihomed and connected to the Uverse Residential
Gateway. I've set it up as DMZplus, and it shows the public ip address
as eth1. I can ssh into the

Flood of REGISTERs - attack?
I'm currently receiving over 200 SIP REGISTER requests per second from a
machine apparently in Italy, host97-239-149-62.serverdedicati.aruba.it.
This has continued for several days, and abuse at staff.aruba.it are
unresponsive. I've had a couple of similar incidents recently, the
others originating from uk2.net.
I have an ADSL connection and responding to these REGISTERS was
consuming all

Soundpoint IP 430 -- discontinued.
Hey, all. I'm in the middle of a rollout, and just learned that the
SoundPoint IP 430 -- my favorite mid-range phone -- has been discontinued.
The heir apparent is the SoundPoint IP 450 -- for a low, low, low $130
more/handset. AND it doesn't look as nice.
Ouch.
Does anyone have any recommendations -- Polycom or otherwise -- for a
good-quality, mid-range, two-line SIP phone (with good

Being attacked by an Amazon EC2 ...
Just a "heads-up" ... my home asterisk server is being flooded by someone
from IP 184.73.17.150 which is an Amazon EC2 instance by the looks of it -
they're trying to send SIP subscribes to one account - and they're
flooding the requests in - it's averaging some 600Kbits/sec of incoming
UDP data or about 200 a second )-:
This is much worse than anything else I've

Dell Server suggestion
Hi,
I am in need of ordering a new server here for our asterisk solution. Since
the corporate standard is Dell we need to stick to a dell server. We used to
deploy 2900III without any issues, however now they are almost not available
any more and are looking at a new solution.
Has anyone tried any of the new Dell R (series) servers with Asterisk,
utilizing Digium PRI cards?
The biggest issue I

Checking blank CallerID in Dialplan
I am trying to implement a change to our Dialplan that will thwart
tele-spammers that are calling us with blanked out caller ID.
The caller IDs seem to vary between originating callers when they block
caller ID. I've seen the following:
"anonymous"
""
So I'm checking for these. However recently one company seems to be
bypassing this, so what I wanted to do was

How to stop intruder from registering sip?
This is a small 12 line system, internal extensions 150 - 180. I didn't
have a phone on 151. Here's the sip.conf stanza:
;;[151]
;;type=friend
;;context=longdistance
;;callerid="Conf Room" <151>
;;secret=0000
;;host=dynamic
;;qualify=yes
;;dtmfmode=rfc2833
;;allow=all
;;defaultuser=151
;;nat=yes
;;canreinvite=no
There's no DISA. And then somehow (how???) ip address
