But as long as our hearts lighthouse, it can not be quenched along his route to sail on. Subsetting dataframes
Dear all!
W2k, R 2.5.1
I am working with an ongoing malting barley variety evaluation within
Sweden. The structure is 25 cultivars tested each year at four sites, in
field trials with three replicates and 'lattice' structure (the replicates
are divided into five sub blocks in a structured way). As we are normally
keeping around 15 varieties from each year to the next, and take in 10 new

IPFW and icmp
I'm not a master of the internet RFCs, but I do believe icmp messages have
different types.
Now to enable traceroute for IPFW, I might put in a rule like this:
ipfw add pass icmp from any to me
However, how would I make a rule to limit icmp messages to just those used
by traceroute? Can the messages be distinguished as such?
A dynamic rule that exists only for the duration of a traceroute

FreeBSD DDoS protection
Hi,
I have a router running BGP and OSPF (bird) on FreeBSD.
Are there any best practises one can take in order to protect the network from DDoS attacks.
I know this isn't easy. But I would like to secure my network as much as possible.
Even if I'am not able to prevent or block a ddos I would like to get some info (snmp trap parhaps) regarding the attack.
Then I can contact my ISP or

ancient directx version support
What is the status of support for directx2 apps?
The "failed to create surface" error in MissionForce: Cyberstorm
seems to have persisted forever...
I have a +relay log of the said game launch session, (if
somebody wants it, i can provide the full version) --
it appears that the graphics backend call pair
which causes trouble is to winex11.drv.GetDCEx()/

Modems: Cable or DSL digital blunders that lartc may help with.
I have a Cable ''modem'' that has a problem that many of these devices is
bound to have. I was wondering what other lartc user thought about this
and if DSL has simular problems.
Cable, being Asymetrical, is able to upload at a given rate and hopefully
has a buffer, in the modem, of some kind. When I nc(netcat) to a UDP
echo, or discard, server I get about 10Mbps out on my

firewalling help/audit
Hi !
First of all, I am sorry if this is not the list for that, but I've been
learning (a little bit...) a way to implement a freeBSD firewall.
So far I came up with a set of rules I would like to show you for commenting.
I am sure there're a lot of errors and/or stupid rules (I am not sure the
rules order is good for what I need) and I would be really pleased if one
could have a look

Connection problem
I've got a test lab set up and im having problems connecting.
The first problem is that it takes it a couple of tries before it actually
connects the two machines.
It complains about bogus data and after trying for a minute or so it
connects.
kill -USR1 shows that they are connected
kill -USR2 only shows the local subnet, not the remote
I've tried these versions without any luck:

Drivers for FORE systems cards under FreeBSD
I had originally mentioned this only to 2 people, which was Jordan
K. Hubbard and Paul Henning-Kemp, but since I have received a lot of
queries on this, I thought I might as well post it on the FreeBSD announce
groups.
Included below is a posting done on the Linux-atm mailing group, by
Pragnesh Sampat. I have just adapted for FreeBSD.

traffic normalizer for ipfw?
Hi there,
Is there some way to configure ipfw to do traffic
normalizing ("scrubbing", as in ipf for OpenBSD)? Is
there any tool to do it for FreeBSD firewalling?
I've heard that ipf was ported on current, anything
else?
TIA,
/Dorin.

Too slow computer?
Hello! I''ve put some questions on this list some weeks
ago and I''ve got good answers. Thank you!
Now I''ve finished my (beautyful) script and I ran it
on my router...
About my script:
It routes packages based on their destination on the
Internet. I have about 1650 preffered destination
networks listed in some file. The script read this
file and marks every package for
