I posted this last week but haven't heard anything. I'm not sure if this is because nobody knows the answer (can't believe that!) or I'm missing something obvious in the documentation and people are thinking "Read The Fine Manual". The server is a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with hardware RAID10, 4GB RAM and a quad-core Intel Xeon processor. It's not live yet, so there's no load from other tasks. You definetly need a TAP connection to make samba work over VPN. We use OpenVPN host2net-accounts created with IPCop here since quite a while and it works with samba without problems.
