pwdump on german NT
Hi, I had trouble getting the pwdump program to work correctly on a german version of NT4SP3. I believe the problem is based on the fact that the german group 'Administrators' is called 'Administratoren', and Administrators is hard-coded into the utility. Would it be possible to make that an optional parameter? Unfor...

Machine accounts, Samba 3, NT Domain migration
Greetings everyone I finally succeeded in doing the seemingly most difficult thing, "following directions." I got my act together configuring the smb.conf and migrating using net rpc vampire into tdbsam. There are issues with this migration in which computer netbios names which are obviously all uppercase were not being created in /etc/passwd. I put my C cap on and converted the computer

Sync NT to Linux pwdump/nt-groups
Hi, Is there a way in which i can run pwdump on Linux (without dosemu or wine). I have a cron job on NT which runs rdist /S to generate the Sam backup in the Repair folder. I Then copy this file to Linux. I need to run pwdump now and get the userid's. I also need to extract the group information. I dont think pwdump extracts that. Is th...

NT username/password export
Sorry for all the newbie questions... I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM database from NT into Linux.. seems like it is the lego syndrome, saw it while doing WINBIND searches, can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right direction? I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is impossible, I also have all

machine group and pwdump.exe
Hi, 1. I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value? 2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even NT BDC is has "*****" in password field which means this account was disabled. I've verified that machine is still valid member domain/bdc. it can browse network and do some administrative task. Any explanation? --beast

pwdump for ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) needed!
Hi, We are migrating from Unix Server to Linux, so the ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) will be replaced by Samba. The pwdump for Nt is pretty for Windows NT, but I don't know if there is an Unix dump tool to transfer the ASU SAM database to the Samba's smbpasswd file. Any help is welcomed! Samba 3.0 and LDAP as a PDC
...anyone has done this already please may I see a copy of your smb.conf? 'net rpc samdump' works, I guess the output from that could be used to populate the the LDAP, is there a script for that? I've also tried the smbldap-migrate-accounts.pl script, to import all the information from a pwdump of my PDC, this sort of worked but it only created posix accounts, is this right? Also pwdump.exe does not seem to dump groups so what are you supposed to use smbldap-migrate-groups.pl with? I think I might be able to work this out if I can just get a look at someone else's smb.conf. Sapan G...

Question about shares...
Hi to all ! I'm confronted to the following problem : I have a Linux box (SuSE 6.4 running kernel 2.2.14 & smb 2.0.7). I have configured smb to be the master for domain named essaismb. When I connect to this domain from a windows 98 box, it works fine. However, all the PC that are in my firm are not (yet) configured to connect to this domain. At that moment, they connect to a win NT 4.0

Transparent migration of users to a samba PDC, how about cygwin tool ?
...cal profile (i.e. there is no roaming profiles). It seems that users profiles on a workstation are not valide when migrating to the Samba PDC. It seams that the users cannot keep the same identity. On the other hand, I would really like to change PDC without users noticing anything. Tools like pwdump.exe or pwdum2.exe to build smbpasswd, extracting the domaine SID and putting it in /etc/samba/MACHINE.SID help to this goal. But, it does not seems to be enough ( at least in my setup !): windows passwords migrate ok, workstations migrate apparently ok, but the former profile of users are no more...

Migrating WINNT to SAMBA PDC
...W-TO-PDC..." related to the operation and configuration of SAMBA. I don't however, see anything detailing a move away from WinNT to SAMBA PDC. Can someone point me to a doc or website that has helped them migrate as smooth as possible? I heard there is a way of grabbing passwords using pwdump, users uid, and the Domain ID. It would be nice to have some something detailing these operations. If there is none, maybe someone can tell me what app they are using to grab the user uid, domain id, and how to place this in samba correctly. I'm using the default method of authentication wit...

Copy Passwords from Active Directory to Samba
Hello, I'm migrating from Windows 2003 Active Directory to a Samba 3 PDC and would like to avoid recreating passwords for all of my users. Is it possible to copy the Windows user accounts or just the passwords from the Windows box to Samba? I've read about the pwdump.exe tool, but can't find any reports of it working on Windows 2003 and am not sure if Active Directory stores passwords in the same manner as NT. Can anyone confirm this? I'm using a tdbsam password backend. Even if I can extract the passwords from Windows, how can I add the pre-hashe...

Converting from NT DC to Samba DC?
...process of setting up a test network to test samba as a DC with the acct information stored in LDAP (2.2.3a). The ultimate goal is to replace the nt4 (P,B)DC we have on the network now with a samba DC. I have read about the uid gid scheme of uid *2+1000 = rid but I am a little confused. If I use pwdump to dump the existing sam database I get numbers like 1036 for the rid's. For rids like this to fit in the formula above I would have to be using uid's less than 100. Since uid on the *nix side less than 100 are typically admin uids this presents a problem. If I convert to the samba scheme f...

"credentials check wrong" only with Windows NT4 Clients
Hi, we tried to migrate an NT4 Domain to Samba3.0.4. We took the easy aproach and started to dump the NT PW Database with "pwdump" and the groups with "addusers" which were used to build the initial LDAP DB for the Samba Server. The SID was set and the Samba PDC was started as a replacement for the NT one. Loggin on to the Domain with Windows 200x and XP machines works flawlessly so far, no need to rejoin t...

Replacing NT4 PDC with Samba 2.2.2
...attached NT4/Win2000 workstations are blissfully unaware that the PDC has changed? In other words, doing the equivalent of setting up Samba as a BDC then promoting it to PDC, albeit manually. So far, I've done the following: Extracted the workstation machine accounts from the NT4 server using pwdump and inserted into smbpasswd. Made the corresponding additions to /etc/passwd and etc/shadow. Extracted the NT4 SID and inserted into MACHINE.SID. Specified the netbios name to be that of the NT4 server in smb.conf. Doing the above does allow a login from one of the workstations, but the workstati...

Samba as BDC in NT domain
I have this problem: there is a subnet 192.168.6.0/24 and the gateway is 192.168.6.1 which has also another nic 172.21.13.123 which belongs to subnet 172.21.13.0 where the PDC of NT-domain is. GW does NAT and it causes that computers/users in subnet 192.168.6.0 cant logon to NT-domain. Is it possible to put Samba in GW machine so that it can be a backup domain controller in NT-domain and it uses
