I want to migrate NT to Samba 3 domain without needing to rejoin all machine (using same domain name and SID). just curious, machine account should belong to what group sid? does it matter if belong to any value? 2. I just examine output of pwdump, some of member domain or even NT BDC is has "*****" in password field which means this account was disabled. I've verified that machine is still valid member domain/bdc. it can browse network and do some administrative task. Any explanation? --beast

Hi, We are migrating from Unix Server to Linux, so the ASU (Advanced Server for Unix) will be replaced by Samba. The pwdump for Nt is pretty for Windows NT, but I don't know if there is an Unix dump tool to transfer the ASU SAM database to the Samba's smbpasswd file. Any help is welcomed! ...anyone has done this already please may I see a copy of your smb.conf? 'net rpc samdump' works, I guess the output from that could be used to populate the the LDAP, is there a script for that? I've also tried the smbldap-migrate-accounts.pl script, to import all the information from a pwdump of my PDC, this sort of worked but it only created posix accounts, is this right? Also pwdump.exe does not seem to dump groups so what are you supposed to use smbldap-migrate-groups.pl with? Hello, I'm migrating from Windows 2003 Active Directory to a Samba 3 PDC and would like to avoid recreating passwords for all of my users. Is it possible to copy the Windows user accounts or just the passwords from the Windows box to Samba? I've read about the pwdump.exe tool, but can't find any reports of it working on Windows 2003 and am not sure if Active Directory stores passwords in the same manner as NT. Can anyone confirm this? We took the easy aproach and started to dump the NT PW Database with "pwdump" and the groups with "addusers" which were used to build the initial LDAP DB for the Samba Server. I have this problem: there is a subnet 192.168.6.0/24 and the gateway is 192.168.6.1 which has also another nic 172.21.13.123 which belongs to subnet 172.21.13.0 where the PDC of NT-domain is.
