using %d in passdb
hi,
i'd like to seperate the password file for seperate virtual domains
into seperate files. i tried specifying:
passdb = passwd-file /etc/exim_incoming/local/accounts/pwdb/%d
but i get an error message that it couldn't open the particular file,
and then Dovecot shuts down.
is there a way to do lazy-lookups?
or, would i be required to write a little helper program and have
Dovecot connect to its socket to do auth?

Computer Accounts
...I've just migrated NT domain to samba+ldap - works great, but there is one
thing I don't quite understand:
What is the reason to have a 'computer account' on host UNIX serving samba?
I know, that NT PDC needs ID+password for each computer within its domain.
But samba TDB or LDAP pwdb backend look quite sufficient. I don't see a
reason to have those exposed (shadowed) as UNIX accounts - are there any?
In other words, I don't see any activity, that NT domain computer does
*on*its*own*account* - e.g. as UNIX process - on samba server. Is there
any? Is there any other reas...

Password auth problem with openssh 3.4 and Linux 2.2.20
After upgrading to openssh-3.4p1, password authentication is no longer
working on my system. I'm running Linux RedHat 6.2 with:
kernel 2.2.20
openssh-3.4p1
openssl-0.9.6
pam-0.72-6
pwdb-0.61-0
I've tried it with and without compression, with and without priv sep, and I
always get errors like this:
Jun 30 19:07:48 sugarfreejazz sshd[1344]: Failed password for randy from
10.10.10.2 port 4320 ssh2
It worked with openssh-2.9p2. I upgraded because of the CERT advisory.

OT -Recommendations relating to a Password Safe
Hi Everyone
I am wondering if many people are using software that acts as a password
safe. And if so can you recommend any software in particular?
I know many people will disagree with this idea, and I myself have
always followed the printed list stored in a secure location. But in
our particular situation keeping this single list current and correct
while ensuring that regular password

smbgroupedit does not honor ldap parameters from smb.conf

the /usr/local/samba/bin/add_user script is listed, while no such

(pwdb/LDAP) ?
Thanks,

Advice needed about remote colaboration
I am about to start a small business together with two colleagues. We are all located in different parts of the country and is in need of good remote collaboration (we will do major software development).
We will use VPN tunnels (over internet) between our computers.
Ideally I would like to set up one PDC at one site and backup DC at the two others. All three machines could act as file servers

Install problems with RedHat 7.0 RPM for 2.2.0
I just went through upgrading from 2.0.7 on Redhat 7.0 using the binary RPM
provided by samba.org and noticed a problem with the swat install.
It seems that the swat binary in the RPM is built to look for it's
supporting files in /usr/share/samba/swat whereas the RPM installs said
files in /usr/share/swat. This results in the following error message when
you try to access swat:

Just trying to make dovecot work.
Hi,
I have to say that Dovecot is certainly the most challenging piece of
software I've ever had the pleasure of setting up (due mainly to the
reams of largely unhelpful documentation). After 36 almost non-stop
hours reading and trying, I finally end up here. :-)
I really would appreciate your help - and many thanks in advance!

Authentication problems
I am having a problem similar to the one that Jason Gerrity is having
with authentication. Sometimes people are unable to access drives on
one of our unix servers from an NT machine. They are prompted for their
password and when they enter it they get the message "Incorrect password
or unknown username." These are people that have permissions on unix
and can usually access these
