Using Xen Virtualization Environment for Development and Testing of Supercomputing and High Performance Computing (HPC) Cluster MPICH2 MPI-2 Applications
Dear All, I have created a virtual high performance computing (HPC) cluster of 6 compute nodes with MPICH2 using Xen-based Fedora 11 Linux 64-bit paravirtualized (PV) domU guests. Dom0 is Fedora 11 Linux 64-bit. My Intel Desktop Board DQ45CB has a single onboard Gigabit LAN network adapter. I am able to bring up the ring of mpd on the set of 6 compute nodes. However, I am consistently encountering the "(mpiexec 392): no msg recvd from mpd when expecting a...

[PATCH] libxl: do not overwrite user supplied config when running bootloader
...l <ian.campbell@citrix.com> # Date 1337273492 -3600 # Node ID cdb947baea102aa6a1d53472f8a3e5f2d6cc485e # Parent ac45608496cd85b0bf1aed6e5b869b4a86ca672f libxl: do not overwrite user supplied config when running bootloader. Currently when running the bootloader libxl will update b_info->u.pv.kernel, .ramdisk, .cmdline and .bootloader. This can expose internal details, such as temporary paths in /var/run/xen/bootloader.*/ to the user. This is problematic because it means that the user cannot re-use the struct as is. This does not effect xl in Xen 4.2+ since it always reparses the gues...

[PATCH RFC v6 09/11] pvqspinlock, x86: Add qspinlock para-virtualization support
This patch adds para-virtualization support to the queue spinlock in the same way as was done in the PV ticket lock code. In essence, the lock waiters will spin for a specified number of times (QSPIN_THRESHOLD = 2^14) and then halted itself. The queue head waiter will spins 2*QSPIN_THRESHOLD times before halting itself. When it has spinned QSPIN_THRESHOLD times, the queue head will assume that the lo...

[PATCH v10 18/19] pvqspinlock, x86: Enable PV qspinlock PV for KVM
This patch adds the necessary KVM specific code to allow KVM to support the CPU halting and kicking operations needed by the queue spinlock PV code. Two KVM guests of 20 CPU cores (2 nodes) were created for performance testing in one of the following three configurations: 1) Only 1 VM is active 2) Both VMs are active and they share the same 20 physical CPUs (200% overcommit) 3) Both VMs are active and they shares 30 physical CPUs (...

LVM Checksum error when using persistent grants (#linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8)
Hey Roger, I am seeing this weird behavior when using #linux-next + stable/for-jens-3.8 tree. Basically I can do ''pvscan'' on xvd* disk and quite often I get checksum errors: # pvscan /dev/xvdf PV /dev/xvdf2 VG VolGroup00 lvm2 [18.88 GiB / 0 free] PV /dev/dm-14 VG vg_x86_64-pvhvm lvm2 [4.00 GiB / 68.00 MiB free] PV /dev/dm-12 VG vg_i386-pvhvm lvm2 [4.00 GiB / 68.00 MiB free]...

How to use PV on HVM
Hi, I am trying to setup Xen to use "PV on HVM". For this, I did the following. (1) I followed the tutorial at http://wiki.xensource.com/xenwiki/Fedora13Xen4Tutorial to setup Xen4.0.1 on Fedora13. I am able to run virt-manager and create a Fedora 13 guest. (2) I followed the tutorial at http://bderzhavets.wordpress.com/2010/05/27/p...

Converting HVM to PV kernel CentOS7
Thanks for the reply. If we want to have PV kernel for CentOs 7 , are there any guidelines to follow? How we can know before hand itself that this kernel is PV or HVM, without installing kernel? CentOS 7 PV kernel
HI, Is the CentOS 7 PV kernel available? I installed latest CentOS 7 & I found out that it is a HVM guest. So, if we wanted to have CentOS PV guest for CentOS 7, is there any specific steps to follow? or the same kernel will work as both PV & HVM? -- Thanks & Regards, Venkateswara Rao Dokku.
