Administrator on samba server?
Hi,
I've samba 3 running on trustix 2.2.
I've added an xp sp2 client without much problems.
But now I'm trying to use "administrator" user on this client for
administrative purpouses (adding software, printers and so on) and I've
realized that, even if in Samba the user "administrator" exists, it isn't
recognised by the client as an administrator.
When I add an xp client to a real windows server computer, the domain
administrator is immediately recognised by...

[OT]multi-master DNS
Hello all,
We have quite a bit of environment on "cloud". We are using our own
domain names. For this purpouse we stood up a BIND9 DNS instance on
Centos 7. And, this being the cloud, we enabled key based dynamic DNS
for instances to register themselves when they are spun-up. We have a
single master and multiple slaves. all is well, untill mater goes down
and we need to spin-up additional instances. Si...

best option for big 3D arrays?
...oint of the loop R
states that the 5.5Gb sized vector is too big to allocate. I have looked at
packages such as "bigmemory", but I need help to decide which is the best
way to store such an object. It would be perfect to store it in this "cube"
form (for indexing and computation purpouses). If not possible, maybe the
best is to store the 904 matrices separately and read them individually
when needed?
Never dealed with such a big dataset, so any help will be appreciated

Prototype based tabs and field validation. Enjoy!
Thought I''d try and contribute to the growing prototype ecosystem.
tabs:
http://tetlaw.id.au/view/blog/fabtabulous-simple-tabs-using-prototype/
field validation:

Both real easy and clean to use. Hope y''all can use them somehow.
Cheers

parttioning a matrix corresponding to different levels of y
Sir,
I have a problem regarding partitioning a matrix.I state my problem as
follows:
I have a y vector of length say 1000.Variable y has 4 levels say
0,1,2.Corresponding to each y(response), I have a x-vector(explanatory) as a
row of X matrix. Now, I want to partition the X matrix into 3 submatrices say
x1,x2,x3 corresponding to each level of y.Is there any function to do this
in R or how can I

Interactive plots or graphics libraries for R?
Hello to all:
I want to be able to create regular and 3D plots that are interactive with
the mouse, so i can zoom in/out of a given zone, etc, as close as possible
as what it is done with matlab.
Are there any libraries written for R for that purpouse? I know there are
wonderful static graphics libraries, but what about interactive ones under
x-windows or any other environment?
I am using R for mac os X 10.6.
Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions!

the EXTRAVERSION problem in dh-kpatches...
... is actually old & very well known by the maintainer!
there is a bug report for exactly this that is 3 years and 124 days old!
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=165505
I can also add my report to this bug and mention that we need a fixed version
for our xen packages, but as it looks for me (at the moment) the maintainer
is not really interessted in getting this

Halt/Reboot problems
Yesterday I took two machines (both running Xen) down. When I booted
them back up I had a whole mess of problems. First (which I finally got
solved), is that the domains were saved, but the saved state got
corrupted. This caused the machines to go into a continuous cycle of
reboots. Second, I found out that I cannot shutdown or reboot my
machines. I have not run into this problem other then

Asterisk, SER & Jabber
Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could explain the relationship of Asterisk, SER &
Jabber (XMPP) to me.
I understand that there are facilities within Asterisk to use jabber to
notify of incoming calls via XMPP clients, however I'm trying to work out
exactly where the SER server would sit in all of this and what it's actual
role would be.
This might seem like a silly

Can WMI be used in WINE apps?
...ling I've found that there's very
little said about the possibility of using WMI from
Wine.
Has someone done any progress about it?
I find this subject very important; if you feel
interested here's why:
One may think this is a somehow fanciful intention,
after all WMI exists for the purpouse of administering
Windows, and no doubt that's best done from Windows.
But, there are some applications that are best run
under Linux and need or would benefit from having this
kind of control over Windows.
Think of the bunch of security services that run on
Linux trying to give business class...

Samba + Cups + Filter Access
Hi,
I'm trying to use Cups + Samba to make a print server for many
purpouses. The main one is to account how many pages where printed by
whom and centralize all printers in one server.
If I configure samba and cups in the RAW mode using windows original
drivers of the printers, everything works fine, but this way I can't use
cups accounting.
So I reinstaled...

load balancing and failover
Hi,
A friend of mine has 2 lines of 512kbps terminated in two Linux boxes.
He now want to remove those 2 boxes and have some device which will
loadbalance the two ISPs and also have a failover arrangement. But he
has agreed to give me a chance to do it on Linux for my own
satisfication.
Is this easy to do with lartc? How do I go about it exactly? I have
very less time to do it since his

This introduces support to run P2V without X server. Runtime parameters
are specified via kernel command line making it hopefully suitable for
automated migration with a little help of PXE boot.

high frequencies response
Hi there
In the past, i have used lame to encode high quality mp3-files
(vbr 1, bitrate ~ 192kbit). I tend to switch to ogg with Quality 4
or 5, but i noticed, that many ogg-files tend to produce too much
high frequencies response. In many cases, this is very noticeable.
For my opinion, i cannot accept this worse frequence reponse.
I have used latest version of ogg (OggEnc v1.0, precompiled
