Samba local user without /etc/passwd
...res and system users to access files. Samba must be able to to translate its own users into system users. Samba users are used to access Samba shares and system users are used to access files and directory, this because file system are part of system layer. What you speak about make me think about pureftpd virtual users. With pureftpd you can declare a user "toto" as pureftpd user and associate this "toto" user to any other system user (declared in /etc/passwd, some ldap tree, AD or anything you can imagine). But the process is the same: pureftpd authenticate remote user then use...

System = CentOS / Apache 2.0 / HTML files location = /var/www/html Nat'd IP - ports 80, 20, 21 already opened & routed to internal ip. I desperately need the quick & dirty solution. I need a setup where one user can ftp from another desktop (windows) to upload new website files. I currently have CuteFTP, but will use anything needed at this point. I need to try to test this today.

Users
Hi All, I am confused about users. IIRC, ftp users are just ordinary users on the system (/etc/passwd) Is there an add user wizard from the command-line? I dont quite get all of the steps to add a user, dont let login except FTP, etc, etc -Jason

I would probably work on doing AD auth on another package first - maybe ssh or PureFTPd - then come back to Dovecot - but also review the two auth options I linked above if you didn't get my mail the first time. I CCd you directly, because I swear I provided the NTLM wiki page before, and maybe my mail got dropped. Rick > Humor me. Give me ONE suggestion to try! > --Mark...

[OT]: Passing password for a command on the fly
Hi, First things first, sorry for the off-topic, but I've already burned my eyes Googling and couldn't find the answer to what I need and I remembered asking here, because I'm a long time CentOS and its mailing list user. Again, my apologies. I have this command to create an FTP account: # pure-pw useradd mario -u 502 -g 502 -n 1000 -N 200 -d /home/pages/mario This command asks for

http://dovecot.org/test/ - "Maildir sync: UID < next_uid (446 < 447, file = .." errors should be fixed - fixes for detecting changes in uidvalidity and external uidnext changes - several fixes and cleanups in index file handling. less code than before and now changes to index header also go through transaction log. that should mean that soon I can get mmap_disable = yes

Go to: http://www.pureftpd.org/ The Redhat binary (rpm) version can be downloaded here: ftp://ftp.pureftpd.org/pub/pure-ftpd/releases/binaries/redhat/ You'll probably want the "i686" version. How to "Windows Authenticate"
If I had time I would be all over this - but IMHO the main problem is that Dovecot != Exchange.? Even in small environments - unless I'm out of date, there's no calendar, tasks or contact lists within Dovecot. Your next best best is to use something like Horde that would allow you to auth via ActiveSync (on Outlook 2013 clients) and manage everything else that the users will want, with
