du vs df size difference
...es du and df are not going to report the same but I am concerned about having a 12GB disparity. Does anyone have any thoughts about this or reason as to why there is a big difference? I have read a few articles online about it and none have really shown such a large difference. Thanks Ryan Pugatch Systems Administrator, TripAdvisor

get xen name from guest
Hello, Is it possible to get the name that was set in a VM's xen config file from the guest machine? I'm interested in having my kickstart launch a script that can configure hostname, but to do that it would need to get the name set in the config. Thanks, Ryan

my fonts look horrible (centos5.3/xfce)
Hi all, I can't seem to get my fonts to look decent under CentOS. I was able to make them look pretty good under Ubuntu, but for the life of me I can't make them look decent on CentOS. poweredge 1950 hangs at starting udev
Hi all, I have a PowerEdge 1950 that was acting weird. Network connectivity was only performing at a quarter of what was expected (if that). Even if I scp'd something to localhost it would perform poorly. Rather than fight with it, I just decided to reload it. It was running 5.3, and it is now running 5.4. However, when I go to boot it gets stuck at starting udev. If I let it sit

Windows Xen VM's have high guest CPU usage and poor performance
Hello all, I have a PowerEdge 2950 that I am using to host Windows XP VM's under CentOS. I am experiencing poor performance in the Xen VM's. Any time I try to do something, the CPU usage (as reported by the Windows task manager) hits 100% for a few and then drops back down. This is causing the VM's to run sluggish and be quite annoying to use. Example.. I click IE.. cpu hits

Flash Drive problem?
I've been having an odd problem lately. When I drag files from the computer to a flash drive, they appear to copy, but when I try to use the files I find that only the name was copied (file size of 0). When I copy the same files to the same flash drive, from the terminal, everything seems to work. Has anyone else experienced a problem like this? It's starting to get a little frustrating.

iwl4965 causes soft lockups
Hi all, Annoying issue.. my ThinkPad T61 has an iwl4965 wireless card. When I have the wireless switch on, I experience a lot of issues.. system keeps freezing..unfreezing..freezing..etc. Sometimes, a soft lockup is logged to /var/log/messages. psmouse.c also sometimes throws an error saying the mouse lost synchronization. Obviously, this is causing the system to freeze for a sec and

centos5.4 and freenx - using my home dir and settings
Hello all, I am setting up freenx on a machine and I am able to connect to it remotely. However, when I connect and start xfce it does not appear to use the correct settings. It acts like it is a whole different user. It is starting the desktop environment as the nx user rather than myself. Is there any way to have the NX server connect as myself rather than having a whole separate

How to tell if I've been hacked?
There is a lot of talk about the vulnerable Linux kernel. I'm simply wondering the telltale signs if a given system has been hacked? What, specifically, does a person look for? Thanks. Scott

Best mobile SSH client?
I'm up for a cell phone contract renewal and am considering upgrading my handset. I looked at some devices at my local AT&T store but nothing really jumped out at me. I'm particularly interested in a cell phone that has a reliable ssh client, with ssh-agent and public key authentication abilities. Those of you who administer systems remotely, what mobile ssh client do you recommend?

good small registrar?
Greetings, What are some registrars that members of this list have had good experience with? I was stepping through the godaddy checkout process, and being opted-in to a dozen different upsell features just left a bad impression. But I have no clue who else to go with. -Eugene -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:

OT: Web "Project" type software
Sorry for the OT... I'm looking for some software to fill a fairly specific set of requirements. I'm not necessarily looking for project software, but it seems like the closest to match what I need. I'm also not tied into open source or free. If anyone knows of any software that might fill these requirements I would appreciate it. Here's what I'm looking for: 1) Web enabled

centos 5.3 with dkms-nvidia-x11-drv and gnome power manager sleep
Hi all, On my ThinkPad T61, I am trying to get gnome power manager's sleep function to work properly. When I bring my machine back up after sleep, I end up with just a black screen and nothing responding.. no capslock light when I hit capslock for example. I am running the latest nvidia driver from rpmforge (I'm suspecting the nvidia driver isn't playing nice). With Ubuntu I

centos5.4 and extras
Trying to install CentOS 5.4 with Xfce and I have enabled the extras repo, but Xfce doesn't show up when I customize the software selections. Is this because 5.4 hasn't hit all of the mirrors yet, or is Xfce not around for 5.4? Ryan

ntpd appears to not be able to query ntp servers automatically?
Hello all, After reboot, one of my servers running CentOS5 no longer keeps its clock synced automatically. ntpd is running and I don't see anything weird being logged. If I kick off ntpd with 'ntpd -q', it will sync the clock. However, if I just rely on ntpd started with 'service ntpd start', syncing does not happen. I previously had: # Undisciplined Local Clock. Windows password complexity dialog displays incorrect information (using crackcheck)
Hi everyone, I am using crackcheck to enforce password complexity requirements on my PDC.? Windows obeys these password requirements, but the dialog box that pops up doesn't display the correct information.? This posting describes the same issue: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2007-May/131795.html However, I'm not trying to change the message completely -- I just want it to

Upgrade from Samba 3.0.33 to 3.5.8 woes
Greetings, I just did a major upgrade to our Samba infrastructure. I previously had a domain controller and share running 3.0.33 (on one box, one samba instance) I set up a new domain controller running 3.5.8, made that the PDC for our domain, and changed the (now former) domain controller running 3.0.33 to just be a member. Additionally, we moved the IP from the old DC to the new DC (and
