PCI serial card works on 6.2 but not on 6.3
We have upgraded a box from 6.2 to 6.3-RELEASE. Afterwards the box does not recognize its ST Lab I-160 serial card with Netmos 9845 Chipset. It worked flawlessly on 6.2 with puc(4) driver. >From dmesg: pci1: <simple comms, UART> at device 8.0 (no driver attached) ~# pciconf -l -v | grep -B 4 UART none2@pci1:8:0: class=0x070002 card=0x00041000 chip=0x98459710 rev=0x01 hdr=0x00

When does the PUC become an issue?
If there would be a better place to ask this please let me know. I'd like to set up an * box and sell calling cards and long distance. At what point am I an internet applications provider and at what point am I a telco. Where can I find where the line is drawn? -Galt -- "They that would give up essential liberty for temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

GARCH-like
I need to change the code of Garch to the FCGARCH (a non-linear multi-regime GARCH). I don't know nothing about R. I'd like to know how can I get the code of the garch in order to change it and make the fit for the FC-GARCH. Any non-linear code will be helpfull because if doesn't help in the programming it helps in getting familiar with R. Thank you Renato -- PhD Student Renato

sio vs uart vs ucomm problems / differences
We are in the process of migrating one of our embedded apps to use uart by default instead of sio in RELENG_7 in prep for the day when sio eventually disappears. Unfortunately, the application doesnt want to work with uart with puc backed devices, but still works with sio. Stranger still, the app works with the uart driver when uart attaches to the built in com port on the isa bus. However,

Prompting the user for input in the PXE boot menu?
Hi, I would like to get some data from the user in the PXE boot menu before launching OS install. Something along these lines: Please enter hostname for the system: <user types the hostname> Please enter harddisk encryption password: <user types the password> The values thus obtained would be fed to the kernel command-line and from there to the OS installer. In our use-case it

Restoring mailboxes from backup duplicates messages in POP clients
Hello I had a disk problem and had to reformat it. All mailboxes were backed up using rsync. After I restored the mailboxes, the POP clients (Thunderbird) that were configured to leave the messages on the mailserver for, let's say, 30 days, didn't understand that some messages were already transfered and the users got duplicated messages in their Inbox. How can we avoid this? --

random hangups on RBS T1
Hi, I have an asterisk 1.4.35 server with a Digium TE410P (1st gen) four port T1 card. Only one RBS T1 plugged into it right now. I have been getting complaints about random hangups. Endpoints are all remote, but I track very closely the latency (by graphing the output of "sip show peers") which normally shows me when a peer is having connectivity issues. Several that I have

RES: Is Samba ready for it?
Thank you all, for the advices and answers. They are being very useful. And I may not know a lot of things about Samba but I sure know why samba was written for (cheers John!) :-) BTW I am reading the Samba-HOWTO-Collection, thanks again. I considered changing to LDAP but time was a problem (as usual), now I will reconsider the LDAP idea. I will use the Samba 3 new release as soon as possible,

determining legal VoIP service
Can anyone recommend who we can consult with that could provide advice on the legality of a proposed VoIP service. Specifically, we would provide VoIP termination in the USA to clients in Spain, Nigeria and Guana. The termination service would connect the VoIP clients to the PSTN through a carrier like MCI, Verizon, etc. The calls placed would connect anywhere in the world via the USA carrier.

OT - Number Portability
Sorry for the off-topic, but perhaps this will be of interest to other asterisk based ITSPs. We are starting service in a rural area where the ILEC has the rural "monopoly". From what we have read in the FCC docs this does NOT exempt them from number portability, but what does it take for us to qualify to receive their numbers? To date we simply have a few voice trunks to them,
