page count logging samba/cups
...ut when I use a printer shared through Samba, then every print job appears as single page. I read this: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux/2002-Jan/2508.html and this: http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2002-November/056520.html I understand that the print job must pass through the 'pstops' filter, in order to get logged properly. But all the solutions I found, don't work. -- Regards Kuba

CUPS filtering mechanism explained, was: [cups raw mode, was Re: unlink data file in cups_job_submit]
...PostScript driver (and destined for any target printer type) are auto-typed. Depending on the driver, the discovered MIME type may be * application/postscript or * application/vnd.cups-postscript "application/postscript" goes first thru the "pstops" filter (where also the page counting and accounting takes place currently), and the outcome will be of MIME type "application/vnd.cups-postscript". The pstopsfilter reads and uses information from the PPD and inserts user-provided options into the PostScript fil...

samba.
Hi. I run SuSE 8.1 and samba here. On the linux machine I have a HP1100A on the parallel port, and a HP-DJ895Cxi on a USB port. I can print ok from this linux machine to both printers. From my laptop, that runs WIN98, I can print to the HP1100A printer. I cannot print to the DJ895Cxi, even if its set up as a network printer. I could do this with SuSE dists up to 8.0. From 8.1 printers are

What am I missing here?!
OK, I've tried changing my printcap name from printcap to cups. Printing works fine locally using CUPS on the Samba box. What am I missing here? Why can't I print to the Samba box via the Windows and linux clients? Shared directories work fine. I am really frustrated here and have exhausted Google and all other resources I have. Here's my smb.conf for what it's worth.

The solution by Peter Adorjan (included below), also worked very well, and can be carried out on any platform using tools available in ghostscript (ps2pdf) and psutils (pstops, which can be downloaded from http://www.dcs.ed.ac.uk/home/ajcd/psutils/ in source form, or from the usual sites for Linux binaries). Nb of copies don't appear in page_log file
...r of copies is not transmitted by the same method if the document is printed from Linux or Windows. This number seems to be included in the PostScript file sent by Windows (%%BeginNonPPDFeature: NumCopies 3) but is not interpreted by the Cups accounting method (the file is filtered by the "pstops" filter). Is there a method for getting the right number of copies in the "page_log" file when the job is sent from Windows ? Thank you Norbert Gomes

Slow pkginstalls due to long door_calls to nscd
Hi all, I am installing a zone onto two different V445s running S10U4 and the zones are taking hours to install (about 1000 packages), that is, the problem is identical on both systems. A bit of trussing and dtracing has shown that the pkginstalls being run by the zoneadm install are making door_call calls to nscd that are taking very long, so far observed to be 5 to 40 seconds, but always in

Printing problem
Hello, I'm new to WINE and cannot get a windows desktop publishing program to print. Wine's notebook prints, so I know WINE can reach my printer (Canon Pixma IP4200). What can I do to get my Quark program to use the same drivers? When I try to print now, nothing happens -- no messages, nothing. Thanks for any help. Frank
