how to protect RT repository?
...ng the instructions on this URL
http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/RT_3.4.x_On_CentOS_4.x
and came across the part that said
"WARNING: RT overwrites some packages from the base distribution,
especially mod_perl"
How exactly do I "protect" the RT repository?
It links to the "ProtectBase" program

pls see below for installed yum pkgs.
[root at mailgw ~]# rpm -qa |grep yum

Thank you: Wiki data for adding 3rd party repository, ProtectBase and Priorities
This is a public thank you, to whoever wrote the Wiki's for adding 3rd
party repositories, ProtectBase and Priorities. Clear, excellent, step
by step instructions. I did this late last night and I missed the thing
that Priorities is the recommended plugin, so I will change to that,
from ProtectBase. :-) Lanny

Clarification in HowTos/MigrationGuide page
Hi,
A little more of clarification :) ... In some wiki pages say that the
protectbase and priorities yum plugins can not be used together. It
seems that the next paragraph must be updated:
====>
Always beware when using/mixing 3rd-party repos. The yum protectbase
and/or priorities plugins are your friends. Although both can be used
together, using protectbase is probably unneces...

Update among protected repos (with yum-protectbase-plugin)
Hello,
>From http://wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumPlugins
----
This plugin allows certain repositories to be protected. Packages in the
protected repositories can't be overridden by packages in non-protected
repositories even if the non-protected repo has a later version.

But jumps a doubt to me, can be updated packages among different
protected repos?
Suppose you have 2 protected repos A

need advise on protect base and priorities plugin
Hi,
Is it not ok to use both plugins at the same time? I have read from the wiki page of centos that you must use only either protect base or priorities plugin. I have been using the the config file below for months and did not encounter any problems. I used priority=1 and protect=1 on base and updates (addons, extras protect=1 ; set no priorities) for the CentOS-Base repo and on the rpmforge

Using CentOS repos in a RHEL machine
Hi
I have 2 machines with RHEL 5.2 and I would like to use CentOS repos. I
would like to know if the document "Using CentOS Repositories on RHEL
Machines"[1] can be used in CentOS 5.2 without too much modifications.
Thanks

yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins
All,
We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the
dev.centos.org repository.
The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for
normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror.
See the announcement on the centos-devel list for details:
http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2005-November/000947.html
Thanks,
Johnny Hughes

What's wrong with yum-priorities?
...inge all over. It could just be that it
reminds me of apt 'pinning' and that makes me want to hurl."
This note was placed on the wiki (PackageManagement/Yum?Priorities)
without any explanation why yum-priorities isn't a good idea.
yum-priorities doesn't appear in RHEL 5.4 but protectbase does. Is that
the better choice and if so why?
Thanks,
Dennisk

additional yum repos for 4.3
Hi;
On my Fedora Systems [/etc/yum.repos.d] I have the following repos:
dag.repo
dries.repo
fedora-extras.repo
fedora.repo
fedora-updates.repo
freshrpms.repo
livna.repo
Two questions:
1) Where can I get a .repo file (with centos url's of course) for the
baseic stuff like updates and extras.
1b) Can I use redhat repos?
2) What about the other guys, livna, dag, dries, freshrpms.

Hello,
Does anybody knows a way to keep updated mixed repositories without
mixing them ?
For Example i have 3 repos in my desktop centos system , Centos repos

Dag repo handled by apt and Karan repo handled by yum.
I need packages from each repo but i don't want the secondary repos to

Yum Transaction Check Error: package freetype-2.1.9-1.2.2.el4.rf

How should I proceed to eliminate the probelm?
(I thought perhaps to uninstall the .i386 package -- but there

Repositories: dries, kbs-CentOS-Extras, update, rpmforge, base,
addons, extras
FWIW: the protectbase plugin was added on 2006-07-10.
Thanks in advance,

YUM Plugins: I seem to be "unplugged"?
Have followed all instructions, googled and read Johnny's November post,
went to Duke (not physically, web-spherically, although it's only 45
minutes away),...
and still can't see how I have protectbase operational.

Excluded files from repos?
Ok.. I'm way behind the 8-ball on setting things up correctly, but after
going over the protection things in yum, I ran a yum check-update and it
returned with having 318 files excluded because of protection. Is that
too high a number? I have the numerical protection set to 1. Is there
a good tutorial about how to correctly set up the protect base. Sorry
if this is a noobie question..

stock openjdk vs. epel
If you have the epel repo installed and enabled during a yum update, you
get java-1.6.0-openjdk-1.6.0.0-1.0.b12.el5.2 instead of the stock .b09
version. Is this intentional and desirable? I thought epel generally
did not replace stock components with newer versions.

Recommended REPO Setup for Desktop on Cos5
...bsingh, google, adobe,
kde-redhat, CentOS-Testing , CentOS-fastrack, epel, ATRPMs also provide
fine RPMs. epel seems to have some stuff that I have not found on the
others (like gnucash), but enabling epel worries me about conflicts with
rpmforge et al. I recalling hearing about priorities and protectbase
yum plugins. My thinking is someone has mastered these issues and I
could copy their setup so I could do a "yum search whatever" a "yum
provides whatever", "yum update", etc without having to enable/disable
repos or includepkgs/exclude packages in the repo (i.e.,...
