Testing that named_scope is defined
...efined. I tried
doing this:
describe Post, ".most_recent" do
it "should be defined" do
Post.method_defined?(:most_recent).should be_true
end
end
But it always fails, even though it *is* defined. Any idea on how to test this?
Thanks a lot!
Cheers,

wmf on Unix?
....
(I was originally going to write to the list to ask why small circles
appear to be filled (in src/gnuwin32/graphapp/gdraw.c) by generating a
series of rectangles rather than using some kind of "filled circle"
primitive; someone I passed an R-generated EMF file to was worried that
the profusion of little rectangle objects might give the printer hiccups
... I assume there is some good reason for this, probably now lost in the
mists of time.)

A Couple Questions About a New Project
My compliments on the release of syslinux-5.0 and happy holidays to the
entire Syslinux team.? I have a longer message in me.? Lots of
curiousity about the direction of the project, but that will have to
wait until I finish my first 5.0 project (*not* my first Syslinux
project), which just happens to touch past problems: drive
enumeration.
This particular effort is on a USB flash drive, with two

critical reason why newer such applications just wont install. But which?
I ask here because the profusion of vague mission statements and
'target-enduser-profile' claims that litter the internet re '*nix
distros' seldom actually address those real issues. And hopefully
someone can enlighten. My complex production & developement desktop
takes months to fully port to a new OS (or...

5. I would recommend establishing a wiki or "CRM" system where
everybody who is registered (trusted users/whatever) can contribute;
that might help to cut back on the profusion/diaspora/melee of
information, some of which can and should be updated more frequently
and with less of a hassle than putting it into SVN/CVS.

Vorbis and .NET
Thanks for the pointers on this. I'm really new to using Vorbis so it's
taking me a long time to make any headway. Anyhow, I had some thoughts on
this for which I would like to get some feedback.
This is really a philosophical ideal for me, but I wanted to pose it to the
list. Keep in mind that I am a newbie, so please take it easy on me.

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- attributing statements to me (that I didn't make)
There's nothing like asking someone to "give it a rest" while taking the opportunity to make fun of them.
Lucky for you (and the list), I can laugh at myself, because I can seem comical at times.
But in all seriousness, just remeber to hold us all to the same standard.
And we are all responsible for what we say and how we say it,

NtfsTest in Syslinux Releases
Hello, all.
I'm just wondering if it'd be possible to include symbol-stripped versions
of win32/ntfstest/ntfstest.exe and win64/ntfstest/ntfstest.exe in future
Syslinux releases. That way, users could use it while not burdening folks
just doing a usual build of Syslinux. If not (scope creep?), no problem.

In Place Upgrade Tool, CentOS 6 to CentOS 7
Upgrade Tool Docs:
http://wiki.centos.org/TipsAndTricks/CentOSUpgradeTool
Make sure you listen to the tool if it tells you that you have Medium,
High, or Extreme issues and mitigate them before trying to upgrade.
You can not upgrade if you have a GNOME or KDE desktop, for example.
Let's give this a try and hopefully we can move this out of testing and
into Extras next week.
Thanks,
Johnny

Processing Maildir contents on message-by-message basis
I (finally) moved over to Maildir storage here and would like to
implement some "scripts" to manage taking actions on emails manually
identified as misclassified as spam/ham. After reading through the
Dovecot 2 description of how it works to try to see how it interacts
with other processes changing the files.
I'm concerned that I would be corrupting the message indexes if I just

Rails too Active?
I feel the need to protest about a disturbing trend in the vibrant RoR
community - name dilution.
ActiveRecord is called that precisely because it is that. The name come
from Martin Fowler, and it expresses a class which is a database record,
only _active_ - that is with methods & behaviors (unlike a classical
database record, which is completely passive.) If you look in the

I did manage to dv-tape this from the front row, and thus
got pretty fair audio, but a slightly awkward camera angle.
NYU Media Lab had a tripod set up at the back, and were
apparently intending to webcast the results via real. They
were a little taken aback when I mentioned Richard's aversion
to propietary formats, and thanked me profusely for pointing
it out, and saving them grief.

dovecot and pop3
Dear dovecotters:
I'm becoming interested in dovecot as a replacement for UW-IMAPD. Any
project that claims it's the "postfix of ____ servers" deserves a looksee.
If indeed I were to going to switch at some point, I'd need to replace
the UW POP3 server (which is a part of the UW package). I would prefer
one that actually used the dovecot IMAP server instead of going to

problems compiling 1.2.2 on HP-UX 10.20 (gcc)
The problem seems to be that if you #include <utmpx.h>
without suitable -DPOSIX_SOMETHING magic, you get no struct
utmpx (all that stuff is wrapped w/ "#ifdef
_INCLUDE_XOPEN_SOURCE_EXTENDED").
I'm not sure how you all are handling such portability
issues. Thx,

What dramatising? At some point, several people decide that anything they dislike was said by me.
Several other people said far more negative comments about CIPE than myself.
Those comments have now been attributed to me.
I purposely avoided making it about whether or not CIPE should or shouldn't not be included, just why it

Yes, but I didn't find it as instructive as I'd hoped. The only two examples of pass sets I can find are the Kaleidoscope tutorial and StandardPasses.h (corresponding, I assume, to what llvm-gcc does). Just looking at the two of these, some
