Open SSH question
Hello, I had a few questions about the Open SSH. If we download a copy of this software to a business machine for internal business usage only will we need to purchase licenses for each individual that will be accessing this application. How do you protect your downloads from viruses when they are downloaded to keep my computer from getting infected? Is

[PATCH nbdkit UNFINISHED] Add the ability to write plugins in golang.
Similar to C, OCaml and Rust, this is not a plugin per se. Instead it's more of a method and set of tests around writing plugins in golang. They are standalone programs that compile into shared objects that nbdkit can then load (so there is no "go plugin" between nbdkit and the user plugin, unlike in scripting languages like Perl). --- plugins/golang/nbdkit-golang-plugin.pod

R-question
Hello Colleagues, I programmed in SAS for 3 years and would like to switch to a not so costly software product. Hence I started to evaluate R, and my first test look promising. However I have some question: 1. Is it possible to query R files by SQL internally on data frames (not on a database) and how is the syntax (I have the RODBC package installed). I would like to extract year, Quarter,

General Samba question
...wever, the school did not a purchase a server for the classroom. The teacher desperately wants a server in the classroom to centrally hold all student classwork. He also wants to implement user level security on this server as well as centralized domain security for all the work stations. I have procured a Pentium III computer (500 mhz, 256 MB RAM) to be used as a server. Right now, I have the choice of purchasing a copy of Windows 2000 Advanced Server or loading it with Linux. My choice will be based price, ease of set up, and ease of administration. So the question...can a Linux machine loa...

Failed to enable keyboard
I have a set of systems that I have to build that cannot be booted from CD. So I put the drive in another system, do the install, move the drive, and fix the video with system-config-display. But seems perhaps there is another (small) problem. The build system has a PS/2 keyboard interface (and mouse). The target system has NO PS/2 interfaces. Only USB is available. So at boot I get the

(slightly O/T) Agile dev. contract form for clients?
Apologies for cross-posting. We''ve been asked to do a job for a client who wants to embrace agile development methodologies. Hurrah! However, our standard contract was written for the 1980s. It is full of phrases like "agreed specification" and "change request procedure" and so on. I was wondering, how do other people get around this in contract forms with

[PATCH nbdkit v2] Add the ability to write plugins in golang.
Thanks: Dan Berrangé XXX UNFINISHED: - Is using uintptr for the handle a good idea? Plugins must return something != 0. In other languages we would allow plugins to return an arbitrary object here, but this is not possible in golang because of lack of GC roots. - Default can_* methods are hard to implement. Ideally we would be able to test if a user plugin implements a

[PATCH nbdkit UNFINISHED] Add the ability to write plugins in golang.
Sorry Dan, but I really do dislike golang with a passion :-) Here is a patch that allows you to write nbdkit plugins in golang. As with C, OCaml and Rust, you can write a plugin in Go which compiles directly to a .so file that can be loaded into golang, so in that sense it works completely differently from scripting language plugins like Perl and Python where there's an

rsync recovery of system backup to different Linux computer
...the server that I was renting at that location, however, I have a complete system backup on another Linux server at a different location. My question is: Is it possible for me to load that rsync backup to another computer system that is from a different hardware manufacturer? That is, once I have procured a replacement system from another vendor, can I then recover from the rsync backup that I made from the original computer that is now unavailable. I am very confident in both my backup and recovery rsync scripts, however, I am uncertain if the new system would work once the rsync backup was recove...
