Problems connecting to remote mysql db
...database.yml correspond to the settings I have in php. I also don''t have any problem connecting to the mysql db on my local machine. I have also tried it on Windows and Mac OSX and I get the same error on both platforms. The remote db version is MySQL 4.0.15-standard. I have also granted privelages for the user I am connecting with for all domains. The trace gives me: C:/InstantRails-1.0/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.3/lib/active_record/vendor/mysql.rb:108:in `initialize'' C:/InstantRails-1.0/ruby/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activerecord-1.14.3/lib/active_record/vendor/...

Users other then root using swat to configure?
Hello, I'm wondering if there's any easy way to enable a regular user to log into swat and have swat grant them root privelages, so they can use it to configure samba without having root access... Please shoot me an email at choranburg@iss.net if you have any ideas, Thanks, Chadd ********************************************************* Chadd M. Okay .. have dovecot set up with following settings : userdb static { args = uid=97 gid=97 home=/export/dovecot/mail/%d/%u mail=mbox:/export/dovecot/mbox/%d/%u/ } passdb passwd-file { # Path for passwd-file args = /etc/dovecot-passdb } Passdb works I think in the sense that I can log into dovecot using a regular mail client. The real issue is when I try to deliver

prng_cmds/init_rng() question/patch
...d having a command line option to specify the location but that would mean changes in too many other places). Having got some working code, it took me some time to spot that debug/verbose do nothing in init_rng() since it is called before options processing. It is also called before giving up any privelage. Is this right? Would it be safe to move the call to init_rng() to later when we have options and have dropped priv? I don't know which calls need the rng to have already been initialized. My current patch possibly isn't the right way to do some of this (like the generation of the strin...

A samba share mounted multiple times cannot be unmounted without root
...mount Mp3/ mount: /dev/hdc1 already mounted or /home/unity/Mp3 busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/hdc1 is already mounted on /home/unity/Mp3 I do not like that a user can mount it, but then if it is mounted twice, the user would not be able to umount it. I do not see why a user should need root privelages to umount something, even if it is marked with the users option. I know from experience that if the Samba server that is serving the share goes offline, then various programs will freeze upon trying to access the directory, and the user will have no way to unmount it. I am wondering if there...

Administrator
Hi to the list. Our network = mix of Win98 and XP Pro logging onto Samba3.04 hosted on SuSE9.1 Auth is via passwd and smbpasswd. No Microsoft AD at all - Samba does all the auth, therefore winbind is not required? I would like to logon to some of the XP Pro boxes as a normal network user, but at the same time be 'Administrator' on the machine. Adding myself to the Administrator's

Samba and LDAP: Trouble adding Win XP machines to the domain
Hi all, I am doing some research on Samba+OpenLDAP (+DHCP+DNS) with the intention of getting rid of the Micro$oft licenses necessary to maintain the Server products from such company. One of the aims I have is to demonstrate other people in my company that an open source alternative can work as well as (or even better than) a propietary solution. At the moment, I am getting desperated trying to
