quick and easy way to convert id3-tagged flac to flac-tagged flac?
...before i knew better, i encoded a lot of my CDs in flac and added
id3 tags (they worked, so great!).
I know i've seen mention of others doing this; anyone gone to the
trouble to write a tag conversion tool? Shouldn't be too tough,
but i'd rather not reinvent the wheel.

rsync a raw device
...like to mirror this data store to a remote location for DR purposes.
ideally the target would be a raw device as well, but a loopback mount
would probably solve my problem if that's not possible.
Obviously, the filesystems would need to be unmounted while doing the sync.
thanks

xmms plugin bug report - macOS 10.3, darwinports
...libtool-disable-static script to get EGREP from the PATH. There was a similar
hack for SED in the libtool file with a JEC comment.
Interestingly, egrep was used in the script as $EGREP - sed was wrapped in
braces ${SED}. I don't know if that is significant but it looked odd.

Mixing SATA & PATA Drives
I suspect it''s probably not a good idea but I was wondering if someone
could clarify the details.
I have 4 250G SATA(150) disks and 1 250G PATA(133) disk. Would it
cause problems if I created a raidz1 pool across all 5 drives?
I know the PATA drive is slower so would it slow the access across the
whole pool or just when accessing that disk?
Thanks for your input.

sendmail/RPM question
...hat the submit.cf
file just doesn't exist; I am pretty sure that if that file exists, it
will get called by default when people call sendmail from the command line.
Suggestions? (not to include, "give in to running sendmail as a daemon
in submission mode, etc")
thanks

Red Book CD Audio still has error correction. Otherwise you'd *really*
notice the scratches.

...bin/sed" on the target contains the contents of "/bin/vi" from the
source. On the other hand I'm not able to figure out where the contents
of /bin/vi come from - and the 4096 size is quite suspicious.
I'm happy to provide other debugging if that helps.

rsync cygwin hang
Hello,
I'm having problems with rsync hanging on Cygwin. I read some archives
of the list about this, but if I understood it correctly this problem
had been solved? Mine prevails though.
I'm running rsync 2.6.2 at both ends, Cygwin's version on the Windows
end and backports.org's version on the other, Debian Woody, end.
The one on the Cygwin end is running as a daemon, --daemon

Core Audio player for OS X?
There are a few flac players on OS X now, but none (at least none that i know
of) seem to use Core Audio. So they all freak out if i try to play a 24/96
file.
I was recently poking around with the Tiger X Code tools and there's a simple
core audio player in there
/Developer/Examples/CoreAudio/Services/AudioFileTools/
called afplay. how hard would it be to get this thing playing flac

I can imagine buying a SAS card and a JBOD and hooking it up to

finally, one question - I presume that I need to devote a pair of disks
to the OS, so I really only get 14 disks for data. Correct?
thanks!

Core Audio player for OS X?
...at:
http://people.internet2.edu/~danno/macos_flac_vlc_wrapper/
note that it will leave lots of wav files lying around in /tmp/vlcflac
that you'll have to clean up manually. Also note that if you have a
bad wav file it won't retry decoding it, you'll have to delete it.

FLAC 1.1.4 installation problem
Hi,
I want to compile and install FLAC 1.1.4 from source code and I have
run this like explained in the README: ./configure && make && make
install
I have left out the "make check".
Everything builds OK and is installed. But then when I want to run
"flac", I get this error:
$ flac
