Question: HP LaserJet III
Here is my bit "o" problem: We have an HP Laser Jet III with the postscript add on. We have been using the printer under samba for while, but every print job, there is a page that says %[LAST PAGE]% + other garbage. Does anybody know of any hacks or fix's to get the printer / samba to get this system to not print that last page. Info: Clients = Win9X - Print via the HP LJ III PS

Printing from Linux to Win98
I have a printer - an HP 1120c - connected to my wife's Win98 machine. Occasionally I would like to print to that printer instead of the HP Laserjet 4+ connected to my Linux machine. Could someone explain a couple of things for me? 1. I am running Mandrake 6.0. When I start printtool, it complains that it does not believe Samba is installed. Why and how do I fix? 2. I ignore the message and

ps commandline option woes (-v weired formatting, more power for -m)
Two issues concerning ps commandline options. 1) -v option, cosmetic ! currently the formatting is very unsexy, makes this option rather unusable, you can't easy follow the columns 2) -m option doesn't have precedence over other options forcing the output to be memory sorted. i.e. -u option implies -r (-r = sort by current cpu usage) Now I find the output format of -u very

Printing from Windows 2000
Hello all...I was having incredible difficulty in setting up my HP Color LaserJet 4500 to be shared on a Caldera 2.3 Linux server with access to it from Windows 2000 machines. I've been working about a week now (sadly enough) and I think I've made some progress mainly from information in newsgroups and online documentation. Here's what I have so far: I can print from the linux

my mistake compiling kernel
Dear FreeBSD! On my home machine I`ve tried to compile custom kernel for 5_0 release. In a script commented out all scsi, raid, ethernet, nfs options, I had not. So I`ve included atapicam options and "device pcm" for AC97 sound chip. After all, result was an error: linking kernel if.o: In function 'if_setlladdr': if.o(.text+0x2725): undefined reference to 'arp_ifinit'

2 questions...
I know this is a freeBSD mailing list, but I didn't know where else to ask this question. I've recently switch to FreeBSD 4.8 (great OS btw), and I've been so pleasantly surprised that i'm now planning to switch over my dad's firm over to freeBSD. There computers/software are rapidly getting old and obselete, and microsoft's price/security is...well expensive/crap.

smbpasswd fails on Samba 2.0.3, HPUX 10.20
I have been unable to make smbpasswd work on my new Samba version 2.0.3 (HPUX 10.20). The smb.conf was modified from a working version on Linux (version 1.9.18p8). The relevant (I hope) output from smbpasswd, smb.log and testparms follow below. Are the log messages about "Couldn't set effective gid to -24 currently set to (real=0,eff=0)" and "Can't become connected

...status epson is ready and printing I can mount and access shared directories on 'lp'. 'smb start' reports no problems. 'epson' prints well from W98. I have tried to replace 'if' in /etc/printcap by 'if=/usr/lib/rsh/rsh-printfilters/smbprint:' and 'if=/usr/doc/samba-2.0.3/examples/printing/smbprint:' with the same results. So my questions are a/ what is wrong /missing? b/ which 'if' of the above mentioned is correct? c/ what do the magic numbers in /var/spool/lpd/epson/lock mean? an...
