AW: How to print to CLIENT local printer?
You must create a output filter.
Edit /etc/printcap and add your client printer like this:
...
PC-PRINTER:\
:sd=/var/spool/lpd/PP01:\
:mx#0:\
:lp=/dev/null:\
:if=/var/spool/lpd/Filter/PP01:\
:sh:
...
Adjust the printcap parameters as needed (spool directory, directory to find
the filter script). Make sure the lpd can access the directory. Consult your
manual.
Now create the filter

Win client can print if printer manually created but not when auto driver installed
Is this a samba issue or cups? I can print from a client just fine if I
install a local printer attached to a local smb port
(\\server\printershare). But when I create a "network" printer (using apw
or double clicking on printershare in explorer), all I get for a test page
(or from anything else actually) is a blank page with three non-alpha, greek
lookin chars in the upper right.

problems accessing printers by UNC path
Recently switched main samba servers and turned up a problem
CUPS printers are all published and can be connected to by browsing the
server, but if, as I was used to doing, you connect by entering the UNC
of the printer directly in the run dialog in windows. you get

Further. What's a concise way to describe this problem. It must have
been encountered before. I usually google all of my issues and find
answers that way. I don't even know what search terms would help me...

Printer shares will not work - 2.0.7
First allow me to issue this disclaimer... The following problem is most
likely due to my own ignorance. Now on to the problem...
I'm setting up some printer shares that allow automatic driver installation
to Win 9x clients [printer$]. When we try to use these, the drivers install
beautifully, but we get the following error message when we try to print:

Let's keep this on the samba list and not an interactive between you and
me...Also, I prefer bottom posting so my reply will be at the bottom.

Win2K can't print to a Samba Printer?
Hello,
** Please CC replies to ian@ichilton.co.uk as I am not subscribed **
I have a Brother laser printer connected to a linux box running Samba.
It is working fine from Win98 workstations, but now I have Win2K on my
laptop, I am unable to print. This is because the linux box obviously
doesn't have the win2k driver so I tried to install it as a local
printer and then change it to a network

Printerassistent.
Hi there,
Ok. My last postings about my problems with printerinstalation over
controlpanel were
still not answered.
So maybe I have to ask my question in an other way.
Is someone able to install a printer shared by Samba 3/Samba pre3 x over
the controlpanel?
I can't. I can't see my Server. I can see the Domain name and I can see
other clients wich belong
to the domain.
I can see all and

smbclient & printing on win2k box with HP Deskjet 560C (Drivers?) SMB 2.2.3a - Kernel 2.4.7, red hat 7.2
Hi LUs,
I dont have much time at the moment to read tons of documentation. So, I
would like to ask a hopefully easy to answer question.
Samba is running alright with me, smbclient works fine, but I would like to
print from my Linux box over LAN to a printer (HP 560C) connected to a win2k
box. Because I can't afford a better or second printer & I also havent got
enough room for it

2.2.6 and printer questions
Hi @all,
I have 2 questions about printer driver installation on w2k-client for a samba served printer:
1.
If I want to install a driver on w2k workstation, I choose network printer and then can browse the network. If printers are served from a Nt/w2k-server, in my opinion it is not nessesary to double click the netbios name of the Nt/w2k-server to see the shared printers. In this case under

I have read carefully all your posts and I am glad to see
that some of you workaround this new MS surprise...

Printer with driver from Samba prints only b/w
Hi,
sorry if this is off topic, but it only happens when samba is involved,
maybe anybody here has an idea.
System info:
- Clients used were Win10, ranging from 1803 to 1903.
- The DCs are running Samba 4.7.6.
- The print server is a member server. I tried both scenarios with two
samba print servers, Ubuntu 18.04, Cups 2.7. One had Ubuntus Samba,
4.7.6. The other used Louis van Belles 4.10.7.

WIN40 printer driver on Solaris not being installed?
I am having problems with the driver installation for WIN40 (9x machines) in
Samba 2.2.5 / Samba 2.2.6pre2 on a Solaris 8 machine. I build binary packages
for both debian and solaris environments. For debian 2.2.5, I use the 2.2.5
source with the printing patch provided by Jerry Carter. I use the
packaging/Debian/debian systems to build and package the source. For Solaris
I use the

Version 3: %U returns null value in security = share
Dear Samba Gurus
We have been using samba to work a print solution for our University for
quite sometime, where the user doesn't need an account on the domain, nor
does the PC need to be part of our Domain or Workgroup. Users can print to
the machine via \\server\printershare and this has worked perfectly in the
past, because %U is returned as the username their workstation recognises
them

I am having an awful time getting a cups printer on a linux system
visible to windows XP. I have the printer, a brother hl1440 laser,
working on Linux cups, named 1440. I then created another printer on it
called raw-1440 and specified raw driver so teh Windows XP driver would
be used. Here is my smb.conf entries:
load printers = yes
printcap name = cups
printing = cups
