printing Problems in Samba 3.0.10
Hi all,
we are using Samba for a year in our departement. It replaced a
dedicated win2k-server for printer and file sharing. We are quite happy
with it, but we have still some problems. Does anyone of you know
solutions to this:
1. We are using HP Laserjet 4300 in our departement. Driver ( origial PS
drivers from HP website) installation was successfull and basic functionality works, but some

I have W2K 5.00.2195 and RH 7.1 with 2.4.10 kernel. Running Samba 2.2.3a
simply by ./configure, make, make install...
>From MS Word, I cannot browse through network disc. From explorer, worpad,
notepad... It runs.
Word say "You have not permission...." If I make share disc on W98 and browse
from w2k, It runs fine.
I try make W2K work as workgroup and connect to public share.

Search fails on underscores in quoted-printable
Hi folks,
currently I'm running Dovecot 1.2.1. Compiled from source on
Fedora 10 Linux 32 Bit (all patches). Clients are Pine 4.64,
Thunderbird 2.0.0.22 and Mutt 1.5.20 (using "=b" for server-side
searching).
When a message contains the text "under_score" and I let the
server search for it, Dovecot does not find it in messages

Samba Shares Not There
(SuSE Linux Pro 9.2, Samba 3.0.9)
I have a simple network, 10/100 Ethernet, consisting of a Linux file
server/workstation, a WindowsXP workstation, and a laptop dual-booted
for Linux and WindowsXP. I have several Samba shares, defined using
YaST, on the file server. The problem is:
When I access the Samba shares using the laptop WindowsXP, all shares
show up and I am able to access them in

authentication, pam, etc.
Dear Samba folks,
I very recently replaced our SGI Challenge S file
server, which employed samba 2 to service Windows boxes,
with an Intel Linux box running Fedora core 2 Linux
with samba 3.0.3.
When I connect to the server, it takes a number
of *minutes* to get an authentication challenge
window. After entering name and password,
the connection proceeds, and shares are displayed
normally.

Samba priting problem, might be windows printer defintion
Hi Sunmanagers
I still have a problem with my samba printing mechanism.
When I log on some windows machines it will not print. I have found out
that when I print from some machines while the print queu is stopped
then the jobs are saved there as root. When I print from other machines
they are saved as my name.
I can print from dos by using echo something > \\server\printer.

Samba 2.0.7 on BSD/OS 4.2
Alright, I give up. I'm going to go out in the parking lot and
scream.
Over the years I have built many, many versions of Samba on many
versions of BSD[386,OS] and other unixen. I have never, ever had
trouble like this (except, of course, with Irix). Never with a
BSD.
4.2 ships with Samba 2.0.6 (why? -- 2.0.7 was released last
April). I've been running 2.0.7 on a DEC Alpha running OSF

[OT] "_" inserted in postings
Sorry if this is too "OT", but there is a particular relevance to
postings to R-help.
Of recent times, I have received several postings via R-help (and some
other mailing-lists) in which the "_" character is inserted where,
presumably, a space, " ", was intended. An example (received this
morning) is below, which (from the headers) was originally sent

One way Samba

all 5 of my windows boxes. However, none of the windows boxes can see the
linux shares as they are defined in the smb.conf below. The linux box shows
