Dovecot for production environment
Sorry if this question has been asked before I looked through some of the archives before posting this. I am considering using dovecot on a small 35 user environment (only around 6 gigs of email) that will be primarly be used with squirrelmail for the MUA. I have been using dovecot for a few weeks now and really like it. It is a big improvement over uw-imap thats for sure. I was wondering how many people in this mailing list are using dovecot for a production email server, and why you chose to use dovecot over...

Transcoding listening test
As far as I can see, transcoding could be usefull for people who do not primarly care about quality but about filesizes. One could assume that such a user would have a collection of mp3's at 128kbps or higher bitrates, and uses an encoder like BladeEnc or Xing. He wants to take uses of ogg's supposed quality and transcode his 128-or-higher files into 96 or 112kbps o...

Is this just anti-Ogg FUD?
...claim. I would very much appreciate some public discussion. Is there truth to his claims? Thoughts? -- start of email -- Ogg has to this day, fundemental problems with low frequency encoding. Sometimes refered to as "pre-echo aliasing" ... it is something that is a problem for music (primarly electronic which is why I don't use it) with low end bass and subsonics. If you have the ability to test this on a proper sound system, you will hear it dead out. Most people don't realise that you need a certain amount of distance from the generation source to your ear for the bass w...

Users created in last few years cannot login after 4.7 -> 4.8 + winbind
TLDR: after upgrading our CentOS 7.5 servers using Samba 4.7.x with security = ads and no winbind to CentOS 7.6 with Samba 4.8.x with security = ads + winbind all users accounts created in the last few years can no longer login. Explaining this requires a fairly long back story Our corporate is primarily a Windows shop while our own research department primarly uses Linux. For over a decade we used our own account/group/file namespace in our Linux infrastructure totally separate from corporate. A couple years ago for new security hardening purposes corporate has dictated all logins need to be...

Sick Samba 3.0.14a-3 Server - in a world of pain!
I wrote such a generic subject line because I'm stuck and not quite sure where to go... It's a Samba 3.0.14a-3 server running on Debian stable. It uses LDAP authentication and is the primary Domain server on the network. Until around a month ago the server '''seemed''' to be fine, but now I have to massage it to life every morning just so the users can access it (killall -9 smbd, restart samba until most people can see it). The clients are primarly WinXP SP2 ma...

DomainKey and mailing list
Hm, my previous post on subject seem to have fallen in /dev/null (can't find it even in list archives, strange). Anyhow. While on the subject of spam control. I was playing lately with Domain Key (and also newer Domain Key Identified Mail) systems. It's currently primarly used by Yahoo and Google Mail (gmail). For example, all emails from gmail.com on this list have DomainKey-Signature header. Also, all of those emails fail the verification. It is most likely due to the mailing list mangling the Subject line (addtion of [CentOS] tag) and body of the mes...

logging in POP3
I have begun testing dovecot as (primarly) a POP replacement. So far the only lacking bit is the logging. It would be great if pop3 could log a line at client exit with the following info: (wishlist follows :) o nr deleted mails + total bytes deletes o nr mails left in spool + bytes left o time spent o indication if TLS was used or no...

Having a very restricted access policy
Hi there, I''m not sure if I can do this with shorewall, but any points on the right direction would be of great help... I need to have a LAN with access only enabled to certain set of computers. I was planning on having the dhcp server just give IPs to certain MAC addresses, but if a smart guy configures his computer manually with a valid IP for the LAN he can get access to the LAN

I have absolutely no idea what I am missing. I have asked this question on linuxquestions.org forum. I know this is primarly a linux question. I am tapped out at this point. I am running RedHat 8. Here is my /etc/pam.d/system-auth which is edited to look like the example on http://samba.idealx.org #%PAM-1.0 # This file is auto-generated. # User changes will be destroyed the next time authconfig is run. auth r...

Splitting wxRuby2.so into multiple libraries
...ne for Wx::Menu, Wx::ToolBar, so on and so forth, it would proabbly be best, to include these classes in Wx::Frame, so as to keep things centralized, and yet still have the modularity. Seems a bit backwards, but this way, central controls will still remain with the class that they are used primarly for, and ensure no "Split into infinity" occurs. Now, the fun part of this all, is how to get the splitting of the files setup, so that it can work together, and not cause redundancy in the core of wxWidgets be within each seperate library that provides the functionality for sa...

XP Pro, Samba-3 authentication consistancy problems
I really don't know where to start on this one... We have an XP Pro workstation. The user on this workstation is, say, 'bob'. Earlier this year, bob would log in to his workstation with a different password than was on the Samba machine. I /think/ that's what's causing the problems, but I'm not sure. Anyhow, we had specifically mapped drives on bob's workstation
