o''reilly''s arrogance
...39;' venture, i am insulted by the fact that o''reilly''s safari service offers important material to its regular subscribers only if they pay extra for it. o''reilly''s material on ajax is a good example: all of the introductory coverage is available only as pricey ''rough cuts''. as for the ''opportunity'' which o''reilly offers to its customers to make contributions/corrections to its ''rough cuts'', there comes to mind microsoft, the old ibm, and other studies in arrogance, who in effect charge pe...

I'm in discussions about us building Linux units down the line, but for now we need something we can buy. Cisco is too expensive for us. TIA! Lower cost router suitable for VOIP ?
...m demo dies after few seconds...). It's the same if I make direct calls (passing Asterisk) so we conclude it's network problem - it also work normally outside our router... I wonder what solutions can we use to give voice packets higher priority. I'm avare of VOIP routers, but they are pricey. Can some of common routers help, or maybe implementing router on another simple Linux box? Any advice, pointers to more info ? How to trace network and debug Asterisk in convenient way ? PSTN to VoIP FXO gateways?
...er the sun. Unless there is someone out there with the engineering experience to build a better one it is a waste of time, let Digium deal with it. If the TDM400P can ever be made 99.99% reliable it will be a great product and I will gladly buy them. Now, what DOES work? Channel banks are a little pricey when you consider the need for PRI interfaces to * to use them. The solution seems to be inexpensive FXO <> VoIP Media Gateways, but there are only a few out there and fewer reports of using them with *. If you use one please share your experience! Thanks

Anyone running a business hosting plan @ textdrive?
...nstalling rails and mysql v4 was a major pain in my ass, along with other things. I''m considering switching to a Textdrive business hosting plan but wanted to get some feedback from list members first. I pay about $200 a month quarterly for my MediaTemple service. TextDrive is a bit more pricey. Is it worth it? Are there other comprable plans out there that have good Rails support? All of this information id provided in Modbus holding registers. This could of course be done placing a Modbus-to-SNMP gateway but they seem to be somewhat pricey. Can anyone clarify? Automatic Calling Feature?
...my organization is using a commercial service (OneCallNow.com), that gives telephone notifications to all numbers in a predefined list. Example: -Admin records a voice message -Service calls each number in the list, and plays the message back to them It's a pretty handy service, albeit a bit pricey. I've been wondering if Asterisk could do this for me? I don't really want to have to write scripts, but it would be great if it's already a feature. I don't have an Asterisk PBX running yet, but when I do it will probably have multiple T1 PRI lines, making it possible to dial all...

BRI vs. PRI?
Hey, all. I love having a PRI to play with -- lets me do all sorts of things with DIDs, fax-to-e-mail, etc. But for a small shop, a T1 is pretty pricey. Is there any reason that a BRI can't do exactly the same stuff, but on 2B+D instead of 23B+D?
