preupgrade
Hello!
Just thought I'd present this problem for comment/help/hints:
* want to upgrade from Fedora Core 11 to 13
* I have a 64-bit system with Vista as a host o/s, running VMWare, and
FC11 as a client o/s
* cloned my FC11 as a backup
* ran preupgrade, got expected problem with 200MB /boot, but preupgrade
said that it could continue downloading (presumably to the larger
partition) so I did
* preupgrade told me to reboot, so I did
* began upgrade process; ran Test. First oddity: Test said it was
testing media for FC10 , but test passed.
* Pro...

In-place upgrade from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 to Red Hat Enterprise
Linux 7
An in-place upgrade offers a way of upgrading a system to a new major
release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux by replacing the existing operating
system. To perform an in-place upgrade, use the Preupgrade Assistant, a
utility that checks the system for upgrade issues before running the
actual upgrade, and that also provides additional scripts for the Red
Hat Upgrade Tool. When you have solved all the problems reported by the
Preupgrade Assistant, use the Red Hat Upgrade Tool to upgrade the syste...

Fedora 12 domU will not boot kernel
Hello Everyone,
I have been trying to get a Fedora 12 domU to boot for the better part
of the afternoon and haven't had success booting any F12 kernel in Xen.
I can get Fedora 11 installed no problem, tried to do a preupgrade but
the when booting the preupgrade kernel through grub (or even from
outside the domU) the domU reboots very quickly and ultimately crashes.
As far as I saw in the qemu-dm-xxx.log, xend.log, and xend-debug.log
there are no messages informing me of what went wrong.
I am using CentOS 5.3 with the...

Suggested additions to the wiki on the V6 to V7 upgrade page
Hi
I've reviewed and am performing some tests for the V6 to V7 preupgrade
assistant. I have some suggestions for the wiki page.
I have started a google doc with some suggested additions. They will most
likely be added to as I discuss stuff with the dev mailing list.
Whoever is responsible for maintaining the upgrade guide page on the wiki,
could you give me some feedba...

CentOS 7, not systemd questions
Question 1: has anyone used preupgrade (I used it with fc 17 -> 19, and it
pretty much appeared to work, but that was on a couple of worksttions)?
Opinions?
Question 2: is grub still supported, or is there something that *FORCES*
you to use grub2?

Upgrade tool for 6 to 7 migration
...released do not work .. there are updates that need
to be refactored and rolled in.
There are several upgrades to the tool, and I expect there will be
another set shortly before or just after the 6.8 release.
Here are the tools used:
Pre Upgrade Assistant:
https://git.centos.org/summary/?r=rpms/preupgrade-assistant
Upgrade Tool:

openscap:
http://vault.centos.org/6.7/os/Source/SPackages/openscap-1.0.10-3.el6.centos.src.rpm
As you can see, there have been several updates since the last time an
update was rolled in (4 updates to the c6 upgra...

Is this still the case - there is no upgrade path from 6 to 7 ?
I have a few remote servers I'd like to upgrade (if possible).

Upgrade path from CentOS 7 to future versions
Hi,
I would like to know whether the valid upgrade path will be present from
CentOS 7 to future versions like we get for Ubuntu or some other operating
systems.
Right now, I am sure that we do not have proper update path in CentOS to
move from one version to another.

will there come a CentOS 6.11 which will be capable of TLS1.3 or HTTP/2?
I'm sure there will come a CentOS 8, but when is it probable to be released?

If you mean upgrade to all CentOS-7 point releases, yes (from source
code for RHEL-7.0 to RHEL-7.1, to RHEL-7.2). If you mean from CentOS-7
to CentOS-8, there is no way to know. There is no RHEL-8 to look at.
Red Hat has source code for preupgrade-assistant and
redhat-upgrade-tool. That is created for inplace upgrades from one
major version to another. Currently those tools are community and
maintained and they are several updates behind because currently no one
in the community has stepped up to maintain them.
But, CentOS-7 has an EOL of...

Script to Check 7.x Hardware Compatibility?
I have a vague recollection--from several years back--there was once a
script out there that could be run on a CentOS 6.x system to test its
hardware compatibility for CentOS 7. (Not talking about a script to
actually do any upgrade; just check a system's hardware.)
Does anyone remember this? Remember the details? Thanks.

Centos 6 Software RAID 10 Setup
I am setting up a Centos 6.5 box to host some Openvz containers. I
have a 120gb SSD I am going to use for boot, / and swap. Should allow
for fast boots. Have a 4TB drive I am going to mount as /backup and
use to move container backups too etc. The remaining four 3TB drives
I am putting in a software RAID 10 array and mount as /vz and all the
containers will go there. It will have by far the

It's thankless work in the realm of polish. But a huge amount of
success for a desktop OS comes from polish.
