Shaping per IP in PPPoE borrowing or sharing Uplink or Downlink
helo again. I think this question i am asking is worth:
we know that pppoe-server creates a pppX device on each connection done
to it.
So, when i have to shape, i have to shape each pppX connection device on
itself alone.
What i know is that the borrowing method on one device by itself, e.g.
ppp0, alone using HTB or the like. this means that i have to create for
another device, e.g. ppp1,...

Shaping per IP in PPPoE
hi all.
i am currently now serving PPPoE in my area.
i had a script generated from tcng that worked perfectly before i
started serving PPPoE.
the issue is not in the script it self BUT in that "tc" code is not
shaping on the ethernet anymore BUT INSTEAD
on the pppX devices. I tested it and talking jargon, what should i do?
The issue is that for each PPPoE login, PPPoE-server creates on the
server a pppX device. that is 10 logins means 10 ppp devices. from ppp0
till ppp9. and one might die upon disconnection.

Dealing with interfaces going down
Some of Shorewall''s features manipulate routing tables.
Linux removes routes involving interfaces that disappear (namely pppX).
When these interfaces are restore the routing tables are not restored.
Just wondering how people are dealing with this situation.

ppp interfaces for both loc and net
...irewall system, which is going to be
also an ipsec/l2tp and pptp vpn server for some mobile clients.
The problem is, that the system has two ISPs a cable one (no problems
here) and a DSL provider. Because of the DSL provider the system is going
to have one pppN interface for DSL (net zone) and many pppX interfaces for
l2tp/pptp (loc zone) I''ve already configured the dsl provider to give ppp
interface numbers over 1000 (unit 1000 in /etc/ppp/peers/provider-name).
My question is how to define the shorewall zones to have ppp1000, ppp1001,
etc in the net zone and ppp0, ppp1, ..., ppp999 in th...

vpn control
we have an external 2Mbit dsl connection and running on it are several
gre vpn tunnels
so far i''ve given priority to the vpn traffic (using htb)
can i now put rules in for the tunnels to control traffic within each
tunnel (that''s where our video conferencing etc runs)? or can i only
control the real interface (eth1 in our setup)? if not can i somehow see
the packets inside the

Classful Queuing
...9;s internal network. Some of these remote
employees are currently using SIP phones. The problem is occasionally
the available bandwidth becomes consumed and the VoIP calls (obviously)
suffer because of this.
Configuration:
eth0 - connected to the internal office
eth1 - connected to the internet
pppX - incoming on eth1 connection
ipsec0 - incoming on eth1 connection
My question, how can I set classful htb queuing up so that it''s rules
encompass all traffic on eth1 (including that to and from the ipsec and
ppp connections) while reserving bandwidth for and prioritizing the SIP
traffic?...

Limiting Bandwidth of an ppp interfaces
...hich kind of
bandwidth. but some users used their 1024kbit login data with an 3096kbit
dsl line and of course they got the whole 3mbit bandwidth for
downloads/uploads.
So i MUST limit the users to a hard limit of bandwidth. no fair dealing or
something else. just a hardlimit for bandwidth. User X (pppX) get''s 1024kbit
of bandwidth. no more nor less.
Another problem is, that behind an ppp interface there are some /29 net of
ip-adresses. So i am not able to filter by ip address. i have to filter by
interface.
but i just don''t know how to deal with the problem Traffic shaping wor...

IPSec gateway configuration
Hi,
I''m trying to build an ipsec gateway and somewhere I''m doing something
wrong.
I have a couple of routers that have clients in their back. All the
routers are connected into a switch. In that switch I also have a
computer that provides internet access to the clients.
I would like to setup some sort of autentification (don''t need
encryption), to allow me

traffic shaping gre tunnels
...very well.
eth1----ISP2-\
eth2----ISP1--LINUX--internal network eth0
My problem is, that i can not shape my VPN (PPTP) connections. At least
at the same interface (eth0) as the other, normal connections.
I tried a few configurations, but nothing seemed to work.
Maybe i should shape them at the pppx interfaces? But I can not attach
one HTB class for multiple interfaces.
Can IMQ (http://www.linuximq.net/) solve my problems?
Can you give me some advice?
Thanks!
Nandor

Interfaces basic question
I have a router with only one physical ethernet cable. I know it''s stupid,
but it is the network I have to use for a demo.
I have in mind to construct an HTB class tree for some network limitations
for the outgoing traffic.
The question is: can i use the HTB class mechanism on 2 subinterfaces of the
same physical network card without any interference?
Please let me know as soon as

Conceptual question ;-)
ehlo list,
I''m willing to shape ppp users e.g. each pppX interface to get XXX kbits
I classify traffic going to ppp+ interfaces like this:
iptables -t mangle -A POSTROUTING -o ppp+ -j CLASSIFY --set-class 0002:0020
then i have a file which is executed when a ppp inteface is up and first
argument parsed to that file ($1) is the ppp number (e.g. 35 for pp...

Multiple Uplinks with the same gateway ip?!
Hi folks,
i spent my whole day trying to set up my linux router using load
balancing with multiple uplinks. I mainly focused on the nano howto, but
somewhere I have a big mistake within my head.
Basically the load-balancing is working, but not on a per-connection
basis - just on a per packet basis. Practically this is not usable of
course <g>
But as far as I understood it should work..

iproute2/nano-howto: dual external routing, a "virtual subnet"

eth1 (Gigabit) - internal / trusted LAN, 192.168.27.1
eth2 - isolated/restricted access LAN (including wireless) 192.168.37.1
hdlc0 - T1#2, y.y.y.54/30 (gw y.y.y.53)
[ new netblock, y.y.z.144/28, is routed to y.y.y.54 ]

pppX - pptpd/pppd for external MS Windows users (due to be replaced

eth1 and hdlc0 are set up as dual gateways, equal weight, following
nano-howto to the letter (because I didn''t know any better.)
The plan is to use the new /28 for a mix of virtual u...

I desperate try configure home server/router connected over ADSL with

I''ve registered to no-ip and in order to connect externaly to my home
server. My system is gentoo based.
I''ve just installed different pubblic servers with static IP and

patch: HTB update for ADSL users
OK, here it is. Near perfect bandwidth calculation for ADSL users.
Patch iproute2 with the HTB stuff and then this:
It''s still a hack (as far as I can tell) because we are patching the
rates tables, and hence I think it is only loosly coupled with the
actual calculation of bytes in each bucket.
However, it works very nicely for me! I have only been lightly testing

[Bridge] BCP code ported to pppd 2.4.2
...kernel
2.4.30.
Perhaps someone else could use this patch ...
Here again some documentation i have found about the BCP patch somewere
else:
When pppd negotiates BCP, it tells the kernel PPP driver to enable
bridging. The kernel creates a device named "bcpX" where X matches the
"pppX" device that would be used for IP communication (assuming I did not
make a mistake). Pppd runs the script /etc/ppp/eth-up, which is a good
place to add bcpX to your bridge and "ifconfig up" it. If the link goes
down, the kernel should handle all cleanup, but pppd also calls
/etc/pp...

[Bridge] (no subject)
Dear Sir,
I was trying to install bridge as we are installing
scps gateway in our testbed. This requires us to
install the bridge.
Our Linux version is 2.4.18 ~3 and we are using redhat
7.2
Please let me know which is the bridge I should
install and how to configure it.
Before configuring the bridge what I should check in
my configuration.
Thanks for your time,
