Patch to allow for the ATM "cell tax"
......" command line: "atm". There isn''t a lot of spare bits hanging around to record this, so the patch adds the feature at the expense of always forcing the "overhead" parameter to be even. With the patch, these commands will generate a correct rate table for: PPPoA + VC/Mux: tc class add htb ... overhead 10 atm PPPoA + VC/LLC: tc class add htb ... overhead 18 atm PPPoE + VC/Mux: tc class add htb ... overhead 34 atm PPPoE + VC/LLC: tc class add htb ... overhead 42 atm When using this command lines, you always specify the ADSL link capacity as quoted...

Slashdot on WRT54G
Did anyone see the article? It''s the first time I really noticed that these little Linksys routers are such a fully fledged linux machine with a decent processor and a replacable firmware. I am now itching to get one to replace the multipurpose firewall desktop machine. Has anyone experimented with the current state of the firmware and how advanced you can get with tc rules? For

Interleave cells with IP over ATM?
Anyone know if it''s possible to interleave two IP packets when using PPPoA and VC based lines? Can it be done with any PPPoE implementations? The goal is to reduce the delay when you have a high priority packet waiting, but a lower priority (large) packet already started going out ahead of this packet. I don''t want the overhead of much smaller MTU, which is...

Re: Low RAM -- Security Appliance distros ...
...a firewall.. Nothing against CentOS as a firewall, but you might consider a distro that is more focused as a plop'n drop "security applicance" distro: http://www.ipcop.org 4-zone segmentation (WAN, DMZ, LAN, WLAN) Integrated real-time and statistical logging, Snort IDS, etc... PPPoA/PPPoE, VPN, IPSec, DHCP DDNS, Internal DNS, Squid Proxy server Unless you want to learn how all the components work. And even then, I'd edge you towards something like Gentoo. -- Bryan J. Traffic shaping for IAX and SIP calls through Asterisk?
Hi, Is it possible to put some kind of bridge which will do traffic shaping/prioritising between my 6 external IP addresses and my PPPoA modem interface? My other option is to put some kind of device at the edge of all my networks to shape the traffic in/out. I'd rather do it in one box if possible? thanks Mike

Configuration of DSL interface
Under Linux, i can configure my DSL connection with pppoeconf (debian), without configure my Ethernet interface (eth0), just load kernel module fo ethernet interface, launch pppoeconf here is it. Another way is to configure the DSL interface (eth0 -> ALCATEL Speed Touch Home) with IP:10.0.0.1 so i can telnet or access with an web explorer the modem on 10.0.0.138. After i launch pppoeconf and

Latest techniques for multiple PPP load-balancing
...ch interface "equally"? I read somewhere that you might be able to clear the route cache after every packet, but I''ve only seen people talk about it and don''t know if its true. Can anyone help? I''m running 2.4.20 on Debian (woody), with both ADSL modems using PPPoA and with most of the QoS and network queuing modules installed. AFAIK, my provider doesn''t support multilink. Asterisk crashes my router!?
Hi, Does anybody else have problems like this. I'm in the UK with a 1mb ADSL service from Eclipse. I have a Draytek Vigour 2600 ADSL router. My * box is configured with a public IP address which is presented on one of the switch ports on the rear of the router. When there is some SIP activity, incoming mainly, towards my * box, the router will lockup after a short period?! I've tried

HTB MPU
Hi. I wrote in a reply to a mail on here recently that you can''t set mpu (minimum packet unit) on HTB as you can on CBQ. I''ve just noticed that there is a patch on devik''s site which does mpu and overhead. http://luxik.cdi.cz/~devik/qos/htb/ For dsl users mpu is, for practical purposes going to be 106 - overhead is still variable though, depending on packet size.

MTU and Voice Delay (latency??)
Our users are experiencing some unacceptable delay when trying to have a conversation. The delay is so noticeable that they keep stepping on each others words and resort to calling the customers via cell phone. Here is the setup SDSL Connection (PPPoA) Speedtouch 610 SDSL Modem 3Com 2224PWR Plus Switch (phones on separate VLAN) 8 Cisco 796 Phones All connecting to a remote Asterisk Server. We found that the MTU for the SDSL modem was set to 1500 and I have since changed it to 1458 which is the ISP's recommended setting. Can this MTU diffe...

ADSL routers with integrated SIP QoS for other devices
...k units (e.g. Vigor 2700V), but I can't find reference as to whether the integrated QoS applies only to the FXS ports in the router itself, or to all SIP traffic (most of the users will have separate SIP hardphones). These are all to be used in the UK, so the device in question needs to support PPPoA. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated. Regards, Chris -- C.M. Bagnall, Director, Minotaur I.T. has anyone tried adsl-optmizer kernel patches for dsl modems?
Hi I''m using wondershaper like script. But noticed imperfect scheduling. By googling, I found some patches that takes the aal5 atm overhead in the scheduling algorithms. http://www.adsl-optimizer.dk/ADSL-optimizer/ Before trying it, has anyone tried these patches? they apply on 2.4.29 kernel and 2.6.9 TC. I use centos4 with a 2.6 kernel, so I can''t try these easily. Thanks

Theory test
Guys Considering the festive season is upon us, thanks to everyone contributing to the list and helping all the readers with your great input! I don''t want to mention names, I''ll most certainly leave someone out. With this mail I''d like to test some theory on bandwidth management, with my own successes and failures during the past year. MultiISP: failover and dynamic IP
Dear list, Shorewall is running here with 2 ISP''s: ISP1: corporate ADSL-line with fixed set of IP''s ISP2: fast consumer-grade cable-connection with higher bandwidth All our main traffic (web, e-mail) is routed trough ISP1. Only for special purposes (frequent large ftp-transfers) ISP2 is used, configured trough tcrules. ISP2 is not so reliable as ISP1 (duh) and they sometimes

Two linux routers with DSL
Hi all! I''ve the following config: [LAN] - [big router] - [dsl router] - [internet] Big router is a dedicated computer running linux, dsl router is a small device running linux embedded (busybox) and connected to the internet via pppoa. Both routers are connected together via ethernet. I want to reduce as much as possible the load in the dsl router, so I''d like the big router to do NAT. How should I configure both routers? Thank you very much for your help! Eduardo Fernández

Buffer in IceCast
Hi, Are you running behind an ADSL line? If so, what type of ADSL connection (PPPoA, RFC1483 bridged), what type of router, etc. Also the line quality (noise margin, line speed, rx/tx attenuation) may be an important issue. If the line is indeed gone for 15-20 seconds, this indicates a retrain/relogin of your connection. Maybe the logs from your modem can tell you more about these...
