mplayer + libtheora on a PS3
Hello, I'm trying to get mplayer and theora to work nicely on a PS3, preferrably without making stuff use the SPEs. It plays mpeg4 just fine using only the PPE, but with theora (or theora-oil), the machine is too slow. Anyone have any experience of this or any ideas? /Daniel

[LLVMdev] LLVM and Cell processor
...rs, and though I've not found an occasion to use it (yet), I'm always curious about its potential uses. I was discussing with friends about the Cell processor, and some of the arguments were that it is difficult to program and difficult to optimize. One of the concerns was that the PPE (central processor) is "in order", which implies that the compiler has to be able to optimize the code in a much more advanced way. I don't know if LLVM will support the Cell, but I was wondering if there are features that allow to produce code that will be optimized for &quo...

How to extract a specific substring from a string (regular expressions) ? See details inside
Hi all, I have thousands of strings like these ones: "1159_1; YP_177963; PPE FAMILY PROTEIN" "1100_13; SECRETED L-ALANINE DEHYDROGENASE ALD CAA15575" "1141_24; gi;2894249;emb;CAA17111.1; PROBABLE ISOCITRATE DEHYDROGENASE" and various others.. I'm interested to extract the code for the protein (in this example: YP_177963, CAA15575, CAA1...

Internally accessing ref class methods with .self$x is different from .self[['x']]

Here's an example that illustrates: https://gist.github.com/wch/7013262 TestClass <- setRefClass( 'TestClass', fields = list(a = 'ANY'), methods = list( initialize = function() { e <- environment() pe <- parent.env(e) ppe <- parent.env(pe) # The environment of this object print(ls(pe)) # The environment of the class print(ls(ppe)) # No surprises with fields cat("==================== .self[['a']] ====================\n") print(.self[['a']])...

[LLVMdev] Compilation problem with JIT/Interpreter
Thank very much for this answer, so my last question will be: is it possible to use the LLVM JIT on a PS3 with Yellow Dog 6.2 distribution, instead of the LLVM interpreter, by using the PPE as it seems to be similar to 64-bit PowerPC processors? 2009/12/18 Scott Michel <scooter.phd at gmail.com> > Jerome: > > No, there are no plans to JIT to SPU. [LLVMdev] Compilation problem with JIT/Interpreter
Jerome: No, there are no plans to JIT to SPU. That's considerably more complicated -- you'd have to figure out when to JIT to the SPU and live with all of the constraints that the SPU imposes (data reformatting, r/w DMA, ensure your code lives in 256K unless you can manage to interface with the virtual I-cache work.) Basically, it's not trivial and it doesn't quite fit into the

Hitman: Blood Money won't start (Fixes for some errors here)
...ed. ATi Radeon 3650 HD (1gb): Rare version of the 3600 series. Works fine in Linux and Windows. Catalyst 9.6. Usually, I'd explain my problem in an annoyingly long paragraph that nobody wants to read. Instead, I'll just show you what is going on with fancy dashes as bullet points showing happenings in a row. Note: Problem existed in both 9.6 and 9.4 driver versions. I doubt it is them, as 3d works fine. Past fixed problems: - All wine programs would flicker and never start. - Fixed by turning off Compiz effects. This wasn't actually an error. Apparently, the flicker is actually a u...

Multi-Thread Theora Encoder
Hello, I'm happy to announce I developed a Multi-Threaded version of the Theora encoder. I changed the Motion Vector Search part of the algorithm to be executed in parallel. I've chosen the Motion search part after a careful set of profilings that shown that the Motion Vector Search is responsible by 70% of CPU-time on average and up to 95% of CPU-time in some cases. I also have chosen

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 3422] New: dry run fails when encountering dangling symbolic link
...link rsync -n -arlpogt --delete new/ old/ The rsync output will be: building file list ... done deleting data/ deleting link link/ Now when we delete data before, rsync fails: rmdir old/data rsync -n -arlpogt --delete new/ old/ building file list ... done deleting link rsync: opendir "/data1/ppe/tmp/old/link" failed: No such file or directory (2) ./ link/ Rsync fails with return code 23, however, if you remove the '-n' flag, rsync is able to sync and does not report errors. I think this is an error, because dry-run should just report that the symbolic link is updated, i.e.:...
