Outdated r-base-core when installing on Ubuntu 14.04
Ok, first I poked around the ubuntu tablet and related PPAs to see if I
could find one with an ARM port of R, but no luck. Next I tried a debian
install - jessie is supported on Crouton and it installs and runs basically
without a hitch. But I run into the same problem installing R - using only
a cran debian source and none of Rutter's PPAs. Now r-base-...

Bahh. I am clearly not awake. Should have realized that.
That is why you had r-doc-html, r-recommended, ... etc which are binary=all.
On CRAN you will /only/ find i386 and amd64. On the Ubuntu PPAs you /may/
find arm builds as Ubuntu supports them for their tablet plans etc pp.
As such, the Dockerfile I sent you is more relevant than the CRAN README.
Good luck, Dirk

John,
I'm not well versed with PPAs, but if you have an alternative that we
could do and fix the package problem without reusing the same server,
I think we should pursue it.

Ubuntu packages and broken link in docs
Hi,
Two things:
1. Does anyone know of a good PPA with updated packages of Dovecot for
Ubuntu? "For the latest Dovecot for latest Ubuntu LTS see Xiaoka APT
Repository. (Outdated. Could someone provide a ppa for latest stable
Dovecot, please?)"
2. On the http://wiki2.dovecot.org/PrebuiltBinaries#Ubuntu page there
is a link to a supposedly outdated PPA, the ppa page now redirects to

r-cran-rgdal: dependency on libgdal1 unsatisfied in ubuntu 12.04?
...n Ubuntu 12.04 (I
think version 1.7) comes.
And indeed, a:
$sudo apt-get install libgdal1
Gives also an error message, saying libgdal1 not available, but
suggesting libgdal1h, although installing the latter does not solve
anything.
I looked into several forums, tried to install from several ppas, but
was not able to get it working. Would someone have an idea how to
install this unsatisfied dependency?
Thanks!

RDMA Client Hang Problem
...d work request on `mlx5_0' returned error
wc.status = 5, wc.vendor_err = 245, post->buf = 0x7f8b92016000,
wc.byte_len = 0, post->reused = 135*
When I change transport mode from rdma to tcp, fuse client works well.
No hangs.
I also tried Gluster 3.8, 3.10, 4.0.0 and 4.0.1 (from Ubuntu PPAs) on
Ubuntu 16.04.4 and Centos 7.4. But results were the same.
Thank you.

Responses to many things in this thread:
- Until I fully test the CRAN site, I strongly suggest using the PPAs
that feed the CRAN site.
https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter3.5
or
https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/ubuntu/rrutter4.0
I prefer to use the PPAs personally, as one apt-add-repository command
adds the repository and the gpg key with no chance of typos. Easy to

Ubuntu PPA changes
...he PPA was first created a decade ago. This
is a 1024 bit RSA key using SHA1 as the hash, and that's not really
secure by modern standards.
Sadly Launchpad doesn't provide a way to generate a new key for an
existing PPA. And worse, once a user or team has a PPA key it gets
reused for new PPAs under that user or team (even if you delete all
PPAs before creating a new one):

There's no indication that these problems are going to get fixed any
time soon, so I've had to create a new...

CRAN R 4.0.0 for Ubuntu repos missing r-recommend dependency
Hi Dirk,
Could there be a typo on
https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/README.html? The installation
entries mention cran35 for R 4.0. Should that be cran40?

traffic not going through tunnel
Dear all,
we have a very strange problem,
- we have 3 VPN endpoints
- all are in one NETWORK
- all daemons come up and connect without any problem and normally we have no problem working through the VPN
but in some cases the connection does not work because the traffic leaves the TAP interface on one VPN endpoint but never arrives on the other end, the similarities between the packages seem to

r-base-dev not installing in Ubuntu 16.04
...y* good point. Given that what Michael does is outside of the distro, we
are lacking some bells and whistles -- and moreover some check and balances
I get thrown at me from within the distro and its quality checks.
So one thing we had run into was inconsistent versioning so the "old" PPAs
may have shadowed the new one with the dh-r version wanted -- but 'hidden'
behind a higher version number. (This can happens as the version strings get
expanded with Ubuntu distro strings added etc pp).
So an implicit "reset" by only looking at one pair is a very good ides,

Upgrading LLVM's minimum required CMake version
...inaries available for
cmake for all of our current platforms, but the windows use case that he
brings is definitely a significant one. Can we perhaps reach out and find
out the likelihood of a reasonably soonish update there? Linux distros are
probably less of a problem - while we all can't use ppas we should be able
to do something, similarly with osx.
Thoughts?
