Samba PDC and Powerusers
Hey all, I?m sorry if this has been discussed in extenso before...but I couldn?t find much about that topic. What are the possibilities or workarounds to get something like the "powerusers" group working when using a Samba PDC? Some software seems to depend on that.... Bye, Goetz

Applications that need admin privileges
Hi guys, I have a working samba and openldap pdc which is actively being tested. I have a group of users that have specifics tools to use such as oracle client tools (sqlplus etc). I tried to logon as a test user and run the sqlplus but nothing happened, I tried adding this user to the local poweruser group but it produced the same result. Can this be achieved? It works fine if this user is a member of local admin group which I dont want to do because I want to limit what they can do to their workstations. Anyone out here who had a similar experience? Thanks for any help Jan ------------...

Sieve fileinto and year/month folders.
Hi there, I am trying to move from lmtpd (lmtpd.sf.net) to dovecot sieve. One thing used by some of powerusers are archiving mail automatically with autocreated folders based on year + month. Is there any good way to make that with sieve... One example require "fileinto"; if address :is ["From", "To"] "dovecot at dovecot.org" { fileinto "INBOX.mls.%Y....

- Domain Users and Windows 2000... Help
Can someone please tell me if it is possible to add a group on a linux PDC running Samba 2.2.4 to a windows 2000 clients local "Power Users Group" or any of the local windows 2k groups. I want certain people to be in the Power Users Group on 2K, but I don't want to have to add each domain user individually to that local win2k group, I want to add a domain group to the win2k group.

PROFILES - XP - SAMBA 3.0.8 - 3.0.9
Please anyone can help me? We use samba 3.0.9 at the moment as pdc with xp clients. Since 3.0.8 the profiles are no more loaded from the server. Only members of the admingroup are having functional profiles. XP tries to load them, I offered an empty folder for a poweruser, which was found, but the profile is only temporary and not copied to the server (xp doesn't report any error on logon or logoff, deleting the users-folder results in an error, like "not found using temporary..."). I did no chamnges to the registry, using XP SP2, after clean setup...

Permissions
Hi Group, I set up samba3.0 to work as ADS-Member-Server. I created a share called /test and chown group to gg_test to it. Access to share works without any problems. I also can add files and directories to this share. When I now make ln -l, the files I added got the group-permissions "Domain Users" and not gg_test, as I expected. Do someone know a solution? Thanks in advance.

power users group
I just installed a samba4 dc and I see that Power Users group is missing, is possible to create that group so that a workstation joined in the domain can install software using users belonging to that group and how it can be done? actually simply creating a group with that name doesn't get any privilege to that group users.

PowerUsers group is a Windows local group. Even if you had such a group on AD, like the existing "Remote Desktop Users" group, it would not provide what you want. You can create an "MyPowerUsers" AD group and add your "power users" in that AD group, and then add that &quot...

Samba 4 domain - Dead groups
...lse : It is a default setting server services = +dns : Interesting one this, if it was '-dns' instead, it would mean you are using Bind9 instead of the internal dns server. If you aren't using Bind9, you should definitely remove this line. I take it you have created a couple of groups (poweruser & ws_admin) and given them a gidNumber attribute. Normally users & groups are mapped to xidNumbers in idmap.ldb and this is where your 'dead' groups are coming from, they are not 'dead', they are probably 'Well Known SIDS'. You can find out who they are by searchin...

Samba 4.6.2 does not inherit setgid bit (anymore)
...don't know if exists such feature. I definitively too need to understand where the problem is because in my scenario I have a C folder readable only by domain users and writable only by some users but when such users create something there new files looks like the following C\new_file poweruser    AD\*domain users*    rwx*rwx*--- the problem is that now "all domain users" can go to write where default acl deny that because of the ownership, group together with 77 permission that I need to manage everything through ACLs. -- Lorenzo Delana | |

local admin permissions
We have implemented an NT domain with samba 3.0.4 PDC on Slackware 9.1 and Win XP Pro clients. Everything is working nicely except for one issue. I haven't used Windows for years, so possibly I just don't understand something basic about Windows XP security ... Having logged in (to the domain), users are unable to perform tasks such as update certain files on the local system, for example

Samba 4 domain - Dead groups
Hi *, I'm running a Samba 4 AD DC at home, which works pretty well, except one of my users has "dead" group entries, which cannot be mapped to a group name anymore. This is only for one user. As I'm having problems with idmap of that user, I assume the cause is these groups. Is there any way I can get rid of those? I tried samba-tool dbcheck and ADSI-Edit, with no luck what
