phone as control interface(was99bottlesofbeer)
Hi All,
sorry if I post again this e-mail but I think the first one was lost.
I don't know if this is OT but I'm working in my spare time at a small hardware project that match to what's requested below.
It's a board with Input/Output capabilities and 10Mbps ethernet interface. It has Microchip software TCP/IP stack on it.
Being at a very beginning stage, you can see a little

samba, wireless, winamp or windows media libraries - slow, hangs
I'm getting really poor performance when using samba with specific
applications - winamp and windows media player, when building the
media library.
I keep my mp3 files on a debian server (2.4.23-1-k7). It is running
samba 3.0.7-Debian.
Most operations seem to work OK. I can copy a 10 MB file to or from
the server in about 30 seconds.
My client is windows XP. It connects to the server via

My Boss wants background music!!!!
Dear Members,
I am searching for a new PBX for the company. My choice is Astrisk. My Boss
wants background music via all the telephones. This is done in a
conventional PBX that he wants, but I can use the Asterisk PBX if it can do
this also.
As I said he needs background music on every telephone this is not to be
mistaken with music on hold.
The bit stream is an MP3 file of 8 Kbs. At the server

Gentoo and Asterisk - any experiences?
Hi,
In constant search for optimization, a friend told us about his experience
with Gentoo Linux-distro. He claimed that he doubled the performance of his
server by changing to Gentoo from Debian.
Does anyone have any experience with running Asterisk on a Gentoo linux?
/Niels

SNOM 200 question
Question for other snom 200 users:
1. We have horrible sound quality regardless of the codec we use in the
phone or specify in *. Has anyone else run into this early on and found
a software fix?
2. Speakerphone will not work for playing VM messages, it chops the
message into unintelligible fragments of audio. Any ideas?
3. Initially we have horrible introduction of background noise into the

[OT} Speakeasy.net
A little off topic this morning...I'm thinking about switching out of
Comast's clutches to another high-speed service. I've tried TDS DSL, but
they were half the speed comast was/is. I''ve looked into Speakeasy, since
I heard a few of ya talking about them. Since I had TDS, that kinda tells
me I can get DSL. I live in Mount Juliet, on MT juliet road, behind the

how to know the max. transmission rate?
Hi,all
When we allocate bandwidth to a host/device in LAN , how can we
know the max. bandwidth the device(e.g.1394,ethernet,powerline..)
can receive(in the idle condition, no other application occupy the bandwidth) ? Can RSVP signaling do that?or others ?
Thanks

FW: Adding a static route in Shorewall
Hi Michael,
Once it was a pane in the neck for me to set this up as I had almost the same problem.
First you have to find out in your Linux distribution where do you setup a permanent route entry. I mainly use Mandrake, but it had changed the way it handles this, but look at the file "/etc/sysconfig/static-routes", it had a syntax similar to the command that you stated below without the

Issue with installation on wireless-only desktop workstation, CentOS 7(1511)
I realize that many on this list have likely applauded the
NetworkManager package split that removed wireless stuff into its own
package, NetworkManager-wifi, because for wired workstations and servers
it might be desirable to not have any wifi software installed. And I
believe it was a sound technical decision to do the split.
However, in doing a fresh installation of what most call CentOS

How to connect Trust UPS Energy Protector 400VA with nut
Hello list,
I have been trying to figure out the whole day how I can connect our old
Trust UPS Energy Protector 400VA with nut. But I have not made any
progress yet and the worst is: I have no idea where to start although I read
the documentation and search the web.
My first problem is how to find out which driver I should take because
this UPS is not in the compatibility list. The second issue

Asking hard questions about the NUT architecture
...journaling OS buffers between SIGPWR and when the heads
no longer get juice.
Now I'll anticipate another possible reply: even if modern OS/filesystem
layers have made UPS-controlled shutdowns rather pointless, there's
still some case for NUT as a tool for logging the state history of
your powerlines and the UPS itself. Under this assumption, upsmon and
its config files would go away but there would still be a role for
upsd and the drivers.
The rest of this note will be founded on this assumption, because
without it NUT would be *entirely* pointless.
Which brings me to my next question:

PowerWare 9120 via USB?
Hello...
I have a PowerWare 9120 attached via USB to my Debian system.
My ups.conf looks like this:
[ups1]
driver = bcmxcp_usb
port = auto
desc = "PowerWare 9120"
When testing the driver with "upsdrvctl -u root start" I get:
Network UPS Tools - UPS driver controller 2.0.4
Network UPS Tools - BCMXCP UPS driver 0.10 (2.0.4)

We definitely don't want that in this instance either! (Unless it is a
dual PS server.) We want the ALARM that the nut driver is generating,
and upsd is passing on - to be acted on in some

Wireless LANs and Asterisk
Has anyone had any experience with wireless LANs and Asterisk?
We have and here are my impressions.
We configured an Asterisk in the office as a precaution to see how it
would work for our own retail customers. Our office is open space, about
800 sq ft. (20x40 area). We use Snom200 and Grandstream SIP phones.
