RE: Samba PDCs/BDCs and Trusts WAS: auth to two diff PDCs? (succe ss, sort of)

I can control the replication in NT, but I need to know if I can do the same in SA...

simple ogg video joiner GUI for windows
...ot; where we shoot people saying just one word to the camera. these words are from famous quotes and once we have all the words shot everybody will be able to make their own quotes out of these by remixing them. it is conceptualized on roland barthes' article "death of the author" and postmodern theories on authorship mainly. anyway what i need to do is to find free software with a simple GUI for mac, linux and windows that anybody can sequence the theora videos to make a video of their own quote, each of words of which, are spoken by different person. you can check omar fast's &quot...

RE: Machine accounts are no longer recognized in SAMBA 3.0-20-4

No, this is fundamental to domain logins; without a valid machine account, there's no trust relationship between the workstation and the PDC, and no way to securely verify the login credentials. -- Steve Langasek postmodern programmer -------------- next part -------------- # Global parameters [global] # Do something sensible when Samba crashes: mail the admin a backtrace panic action = /usr/share/samba/panic-action %d workgroup = DOMAIN1 netbios name = SAMBA server string = %h server (Samb...

Samba and WINS
Current situation: a) lots of Windows NT 4.0 workstation clients b) quite a few Samba 1.9.18p10 servers running on Suns c) 1 Samba server running as WINS server d) NO Windows Servers e) 1:1 correspondance between Netbios names and DNS names f) DHCP currently tells the Windows machines the WINS server. Problem: If WINS server goes down, every Windows NT workstation can not mount anything

querying an NT domain for a list of logged-in users
...; is there a similar ready-made mechanism that can be used in an NT domain setting? Better still, would there be a (painless) way to get an NT PDC to inform a Unix server of domain logons/logoffs? Or would it be better/easier to use the Linux machine as the PDC in this case? TIA, -Steve Langasek postmodern programmer

nis passwords
Has anyone come up with a creative way to us nis passwords for both encripted and non-encripted passwords? Or a way to convert the nis password table to the smbpassword file, without having each user to login and change their password? Disabling logging during pam_authenticate
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Is there any way to disable logging of failures during pam_authenticate? I ask because OpenSSH is currently generating an extra "authentication failure..." message at each login. The problem is that OpenSSH likes to try a blank password attempting any other authentication. This is a shortcut for anonymous SSH servers (e.g. OpenBSD's

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0. Both machines are running Samba 2.05a. When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem mounting the smb service. RedHat 6.0: works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456` Slacware 7.0: failed: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c

Workstation Trust Accounts
Hi there, I have a really ugly problem, which, as I know is partially selfmade. But to the problem: I have five servers running samba-2.2.3a-12 (latest Debian Woody release) which are controlled by one master server. All of the five servers act as pdc for an own nt-domain. Now to keep the administrative work as low as possible I have this one master server. Via this server we/our customer

german umlaute win95 client vs. Linux-Samba file server
Hello, I've a problem known especially to german speaking users (and other nationalities using special characters). I'm using Samba 1.9.18 and a linux 2.0.35 kernel I want to create a directory or file with a name containing german umlaute from the win95 client so that I can see it on the linux machine with the equal characters I've used under win95. On the win95 machine the new

FW: samba woes
All, I have been working on a component that is included with samba called SMBSH. The binary allows you to automount your NT shares by accessing your profile . I have been working on this for the last few days and have been unsuccesful at getting it work. Now I am not much of a programmer, but I did my best to try and troubleshoot this. However it just does not want to work in Linux. I

Complete Web Interface?
Hi all, I was wondering, has anyone built a complete web interface for SMB servers? What I was thinking of would be something like SMB2WWW, but that would also allow the user to click command buttons to delete, upload, move, rename, etc. Permissions to the shares would be established the same way as they are done now, by asking for a username / password on restricted shares. Essentially, I

PAM configuration
To stem the tide of support requests from people who don't read the INSTALL file when installing OpenSSH and then complain about password auth failing. I am considering the idea of automagically installing a PAM file into /etc/pam.d if it exists, PAM support is enabled and no such file already exists. I have a couple of questions: - How is PAM controlled on Solaris? Is there a pam.d

%L, subnets and dns resolution Xmas problem
Hi, Using the %L macro in smb.conf is for me *very* usefull, I can setup as many logical servers as I need and that's great : no need for new machines, I can switch logical servers back and forth, it's a kind of System Administrator dream :-) *But* I've discovered a problem with the %L macro in a subnetted environment : - "hermes" is a Samba 1.9.18p10 server on a hpux
