Could this be an advantage of CentOS over the PNAELV distribution?
...rocess going on before the actual releases, at least for major updates like the upcoming 5.2 version. Does this happen also for security updates? Since I don't mind the small delay from the upstream releases I was wondering if the additional QA process could actually be an advantage over the PNAELV distribution. This could be even more true if the QA isn't only related to CentOS specific changes but it's done even for practically untouched updates. Is this assumption correct? Thanks for reading, Luigi

DNS Server and SQL backend
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I think most people here use BIND as their DNS server of choise. I just happen to have updated DLZ patch for the current bind version. DLZ patch allows you to use mysql (pgsql, ldap etc) as a backend for zone storage. I make no garantees, of course, but if anyone is interested on the patch (with or without the specfile for rpm building), please let

php versions
Got a question with centos/rhel php versions. because in centos 3 they're still using 4.3.2 and centos 4 which uses 4.3.9. how about the bugfixes done in 4.4 and 4.4.1? centos/rhel updates regularly like centos 3 which already updated for 6 times but still uses 4.3.2? is that mean we still suffer the bugs of the original 4.3.2? -- Regards, Mark Quitoriano, CCNA http://www.atamanetworks.com

Re: dell-lnx-pe] Re: RHEL4 vs CentOS-4
...correct that we expressly strive to match build environments, and use 'ldd' and other tools to verify as close as possible binary compatability to the upstream's binary offerings as we can [some recent packages have been built with non-released compiler variants at the upstream 'PNAELV', and so there are minor known divergences from time to time, which thus far have not affected performance]; we upstream issues, and proposed fixes from the CentOS Bug tracker into Red Hat's Bugzilla regularly, and some of the core are well known participants in the 'Fedora' p...

4.4 upgrade problems
OK ... there has been an awful lot of attributing problems to the 4.4 upgrade that are not really upgrade problems. The best I can tell there is really only one major problem: 1. You need to install python-sqlite before sqlite (or at nearly the same time). To accomplish this you can do this: yum update python-sqlite sqlite Then after that, a normal yum update works fine. There are 2 other

...source SRPMS provided by a prominent North American Enterprise Linux vendor. CentOS conforms fully with the upstream vendors redistribution policies and aims to be 100% binary compatible. (CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork).", AND all additional non-PNAELV packages will remain in the extra repository??? thanks bn
