[LLVMdev] RFC: Plugable intrinsics
...ly never be incorporated into mainline. Maintaining out of tree intrnisics takes a fair amount of work and leads to the choice of using a single version of LLVM for a project (and thus have to manually incorporate bug fixes) or risk untimely breakage. I propose that the plugin be extended to allow plugable intrinsics. To be sucessful, such a plugin will have to provide hooks for basic AA information, DAG supoort and legalization, and code generation for some architectures. Any of the places that currently handle intrisics would have to be modified to check loaded libraries for all registered exter...

i18n friendly, plugable Rails Core
In my work with a simple localization plugin, i''m running into a lot of places in the Rails core, where text and other localization specific information is hardcoded. I''ve included some examples in the bottom of this post. It''s hard for an outsider to know, if the hardcoded values are a result of inconsistency in code, or "by design". I hope that we can have

How to let wine doing a rescan of PATA devices?
I used to use a hot-plugable PATA-CDROM drive on my Computer (Samsung P35 laptop). To change drive I use a script which at the bottom of its heart uses Code: echo "scsi remove-single-device 1 0 0 0" | sudo tee /proc/scsi/scsi and Code: echo "scsi add-single-device 1 0 0 0" | sudo tee /proc/scsi/scsi...

Gzip compression for ZFS
...varying compression algorithm. If a file is compressed using method A but method B is now active, if I truncate the file and rewrite it, is A or B used? 2) The question of whether or not to use bzip2 was raised in the comment section of your blog. How easy would it be to implement a plugable (or more generic) interface between ZFS and the compression algorithms it uses such that I can modload a bzip2 compression LKM and tell ZFS to use that? I suspect that doing this will take extra work from the Solaris side of things too... 3) Given (1), are there any thoughts about be...

Tripp-Lite SMART1500LCDT
I've made some progress getting this Tripplite to work: http://gathman.org/2016/07/30/Standard_Schmandard/ Basically, plug it into a USB hub that actually implements USB2.0, then power cycle the port when it hangs. It does seem to be a hardware problem with the USB controller. On 05/24/2016 09:06 AM, Charles Lepple wrote: > On May 22, 2016, at 10:18 AM, Stuart Gathman wrote: >> I

[RFC] Changing X86 data layout for address spaces
I really hate to dip my toe in here, because it will only reveal my total ignorance, but…. Do the "usual rules around addrspacecast" say when different address spaces can alias? I remember somebody using address spaces to represent something like special off-to-the-side device memory, which obviously could never alias main memory, whereas other uses like the 32/64-bit thing will

How to convert stand-alone samba servers to join existing Windows Active Directory domain
We have multiple stand-alone samba (4.2.10 and 4.10.4) file sharing servers with hundreds of local users on each server (not the same on all samba servers) in a CentOS/Oracle Linux (6 and 7) network. We would like to convert these stand-alone servers to join an existing Windows based AD domain without losing data or ownership/permission metadata on these servers. Is there a guide for doing

Queue only ringing one agent at a time
Hello! We are having an interesting problem with the queue. What is happening is that no matter how many agents are logged into the queue, only one phone will ring at one time. So, for example, if we have two agents in the queue and two incoming calls. The first incoming call will ring on one of the agent phones, but the second agent's phone will not ring until the first agent picks up the

PHP 5 port of Markdown, plugin-based
Hi, First of all, thanks to John Gruber for the fantastic Markdown syntax and parse/render system. Also, thanks to Michel Fortin for his PHP 4 version of Markdown. Based on those two works, I have completed a **plugin-aware** PHP 5 version of Markdown. You can see it in Subversion here: * <http://solarphp.com/svn/trunk/Solar/Markdown.php> *

Types of apps to use Rails for?
I am a web developer using PHP and very limited JavaScript. I keep hearing about RoR and am interested in learning it, but before I make the jump I''d like to hear about the types of applications I should be using it for. On all the tutorials you see big apps like stores, social networking, shopping carts, etc. I don''t have any immediate plans to be building something that

[LLVMdev] New machine model questions
Hi Andrew, I seem to be making good progress on the P5600 scheduler using the new machine model but I've got a few questions about it. How would you represent an instruction that splits into two micro-ops and is dispatched to two different reservation stations? For example, I have two reservation stations (AGQ and FPQ). An FPU load instruction is split into a load micro-op which is
