Also for my application I will be searching for fairly large pieces
of text ( many sentences long ) and doing fuzzy matching. I suppose
what I am doing is very similar to trying to find matching phrases
within an essay to catch people plagiarizing (that''s not what I''m
doing at all, but it''s close enough in terms of methods).
Are both of these possible with Ferret? Is there another technology I
should look at for doing this? I will have a relatively small index

flac/metaflac 32/64 Universal OS X builds
I've just finished an Xcode 3.1 project file for flac and metaflac
that builds both tools as 32/64 bit universal binaries. If anyone is
interested in either the binaries or the project, I'll be happy to
share them.

My gut feeling is, since his name is related to the previous versions,
anyone using those versions would cite him as well, but otherwise I don't
feel comfortable citing my former co-author for the current work he hasn't

At this point, I would really...

mixed models for analyzing survey data with unequal selec tion probability
...nt best practice is to use the weights as a covariate in a regression
model - and bytheway - the weights are the inverse of the probabilities of
selection - not the probabilities.
Fundamentally, there is a difficulty in making sense out of 'random effects'
in a finite population setting.

[OT] Is data copyrightable?
Dear all,
This is a little bit off-topic, but I was wondering if anyone has any
informed opinion on whether data (ie. a dataset) is copyrightable?

[PATCH] ocfs2/quota: Release lock for error in ocfs2_quota_write.
ocfs2_quota_write needs to release the lock if it fails to
read quota block. So use "goto out" instead of "return err".

...ely).
4) In your ABCD proposal, did you copy the text describing the ABCD
algorithm from the ABCD paper? If so, don't do that; describe the
algorithm in your own words (even if your English isn't perfect). It
will show that you understand the algorithm and prevent you from being
accused of plagiarism.
5) Cite sources. If your proposal states that you are going to implement
an algorithm described in a paper, specify exactly which paper it is.
That way, the proposal reviewer can look at the paper.

Publishing a webcam on a web page?
This talk of cameras has reminded me of a problem I've not yet been able
to solve.
I have a Logitech Communicate STX
( ID 046d:08ad Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate STX )
This seems to work under v4l on CentOS 5.4. If I load xawtv (from rpmforge)
then I can view the image from the camera.
But what I'd like to be able to do is have the image appear on a web page

[LLVMdev] summer of code idea— update the SAFECode project to the new LLVM API
Hi, John Criswell!
You have said to me that SAFECode had not been maintained for several years,
now I have submitted my proposal for updating the SAFCode project to the new LLVM APIs.
If you are still interested in the topic and willing to guid my project, I will be very happy.
Now I'm waiting for you comments.
Here is my proposal:
