HW Question (TDM400)
Hi, all
Did anyone tried TDM400 card on old main board (Intel 440LX chipset -- PII)? The reason I am asking is because TDM400 needs PCI2.2 and main board is PCI2.1
I do not want to upgrade yet.
Thanks,
Rudolf

syslinux-3.36-pre8 feedback
Tested floppy boot on two machines (one PII 350, one 486DX4)
Floppy boot with syslinux is very very slow, more than 18 mn to boot a linux
kernel from floppy on the 2 machines.
Tested with 3 different disquettes that were know to work, boot is reached
after this very long time.
Noise from floppy head make think floppy wait approximatly one minute
between each read.
No problem with pxe boot with

Bug#368531: Debian Xen kernel-image?

There is one? I do not find it in either etch or sid (or on
Alioth). Do I have to recompile a kernel?

Off topic
Hello,
I''m going to be helping a friend setup Shorewall in place of his Cisco
router on his home network. Shorewall will be acting as the router/firewall
gateway for internet access for his home LAN. His connection to the ISP is
via PPPOE. Nothing unfamiliar here to me. It will be a standard 2 interface
setup.
My curiosity was peaked when he said that he is going to be installing

Minimal hardware requirements
Hi, all
I am doing "prrof of concept" system. I will have two IP phones connected to Asterisk box. Box itself will have 1 PSTN conenction and one analog phone conenction. A basic minimal configuration.
At the moment I am planning to use an old PII-350 with 128M of RAM I have lying around. I can not test anything yet, as I am waiting for phones to arrive, so question is will that be

Hi!
I have moved our samba configuration to a new hardware.

kernel-2.4.20-28.7
New config:
P4 2.4GHz
512MB memory
RedHat 9.0
60GB scsi hard drive for samba shares and OS
40GB ide hard drive for backups

Bad NICs
...chunk before sending an ack. This causes huge protocol overhead and the
data rate falls through the floor. I suspect a number of the reported
performance problems in this list are related to this - people tend to
stick Linux and Samba on an old 486 then use this to serve an office full
of brand new PIIs running WNT.
Why the performance figures for the 3c509 were so much better I haven't a
clue, unless the fact that it was an ISA card slowed the data rate
sufficiently to minimise the windowing problem?

oops 2.2.19 ext3 0.0.6b prune_dcache
Hi,
i am seeing an oops (every couple of days) on a UP PII system with
SCSI disks, Kernel 2.2.19 and ext3 0.0.6b.
All oops output passed the klogd thus i cant anymore pipe it through
ksymoops - I ensured klogd got the correct System.map so the result
should be reliable.

Performance Issues with GBit LAN
Hi.
I have 2 PC's connected with 1GBit NIC's. When I transfer a file from my File-Server(Redhat9.0, 256 SD-RAM, 300MHz PII, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD200JB RAID 0) to my Windows-PC(AMD Athlon XP 1800+, 1024 MB DDR-RAM, WINXP PRO, RTL8169 NIC, 2x Western Digital WD080JB RAID 0) with Samba, i get Speeds around 8-9MB/sec. I think this is too low for an GBit Network, so i tested the

BudgeTone 102 flakey sound
I have experienced lots of apparently dropped packets (in other words,
lots of short interruptions of what the other party tries to tell me)
with a GS102 and chan_capi. The GS102 is connected through a lightly-loaded
switch directly connected to the * server, so bandwidth/latency
shouldn't pose a problem. Funny thing is that the switch indicates
10mbit on the GS102 port - is that correct?

"Bind to socket failed"
I'm running RedHat 7.2 (kernel 2.4.17) on a PII 300. I'm using Liveice
with XMMS. I had no problem broadcasting with Shoutcast and Winamp back
before I switched over to Linux. I'd love to get going on broadcasting...
but Icecast refusing to open is a problem.
Running icecast gives me the following.

VERY SERIOUS smbclient problems w/samba 2.0.*
All,
With the belief that, "given enough eyes all bugs are shallow", I submit
the following to the list. I had sent a shorter version to samba-bugs
last week, but, given the nature of this problem, I think everyone needs
to check this on their own systems.
Overview:
Pulling files from an NT 4.0 machine to a RedHat 5.0 linux box using
2.0.3 or 2.0.4b smbclient *consistently* results in

asterisk dabbling...
Newbee here....
I would like to play around with Asterisk a little.
First, I need to prepare a server with FreeBSD.
It's a PII 433mHz/256mb box. Good enough?
Then install Asterisk.
I have a broadband (cable) internet presence.
Could I do anything with this connection and
Asterisk?
Thanks,
Rayasterisk

VIA vs Intel

How much CPU power needed for asterisk
I'm thinking of placing Asterisk on an itx motherboard in a tiny case.
The ITX motherboards top out around 400Mhz PII (in terms of power
relative to a desktop).
How much CPU would I need for an office of 50 people? How much disk
storage for voicemail + OS? (typical / average)
The system will have no PCI cards (no Digium FSO/FXO cards) - everything
over the LAN connection.
Thanks,

firewall and * suggestions
Hi,
I am going to set up an office of 30 employees and since it's the first
time I thought I will ask for suggestions (trying to make a CentOS base
office :) ). I was planning to re use an old Compaq LPr PII 450, sw
mirrored scsi 10000rpm disks, 448Mb RAM, to build a CentOS based
firewall and I was wondering if this hardware would be enough to serve
30 clients (I already have a centos

X100P interrupt load
Hello,
Can anyone tell me what the "normal" number of
interrupts per second is for an X100P card?
I've used FreeBSD 5.3 and a linux 2.6.11 kernel
on the exact same hardware (only the disk changed)
and `systat -vmstat 1` on FreeBSD and
`procinfo -dS -n1` under Linux. For both, I'm
seeing roughly 1000 interrupts per second on my
X100p card. It was a bit worse under FreeBSD,
and I
