I have read in Paul Murrell's book R Graphics about how to use a bitmap as background for a plot (page 107). Also, I routinely use function read.shape() in package maptools to read maps in shapefile format. Now, I would like to overlay an aerial photograph in .jpg format and a map. Ladies and gentlemen Can someone help me? I have just bought an AS One 120 gig+Linpus Linux as a photo storage device. It is a fabulous machine for the job as the screen is incredibly sharp and the whole deal is better than say the Epson P3000 device. I use a pair of Canon 400D's and only shoot in Raw. Hi: I am doing some work that involves plotting points of interest superimposed on photographs and maps. I can produce the plots fine in R, but so far I have had to do the superimposition externally, which makes it tedious to do exploratory work.
