Re: [advocacy] current tshirt/slogan submissions
Two notes on my T-shirt design... Had I known there was an official logo/font for the Ogg Vorbis and Xiph I would have used it. Sorry if this causes any problems. :o) #ifdef Stand_on_SoapBox As for the phenomenon vs. standard I think I may want to explain. It seems that whenever the media reports on Ogg (or ANY open source project for that matter) they often use the word phenomenon to describe it. Phenomenon in the sense that a successful open source project is a bizarre, random and obscure event. As if to...

Odd anova(lm()) order phenomenon, looking for an explanation
Hi everyone, I'm witnessing an odd modelling phenomenon that I can't explain. If anyone has seen this before, or can explain what's going on would let me know, I'd be very grateful! Especially if I'm just being dim. I'm fitting a pair of continuous variates and their interaction to some residuals from another model. The sequentia...

join domain and add machine script - phenomenon :-(
...i get an error like "user could not be found" 4) ok-click to this message and once again ok for joining the domain 5) after a few seconds it succeeded and everything else works well i found out that the problem is the search dn because i've the ous clients and users and this is the phenomenon: at the first try the ws-account is created on the right place - in ou=Clients - but then it will be searched in ou=Users and so "user could not be found" is ok, because in ou=Users isn't such a account! ok, but i you try it again the client will be searched in the right ou (ou=Cli...

Hi, > BTW the opt command I use is *"opt -load ../../../Debug+Asserts/lib/Hello.so > -hello <hello.bc> -o hello.bc"* just use hello.bc not <hello.bc> otherwise the shell will redirect input and output. Ciao, Duncan.

rsync-phenomenon
Hi, I have some questions regarding rsync. I've created a little script that makes a backup of my home-directory using rsync. When I call this script again _all files_ will be copied again. What's wrong here? My environment: OS is Linux (SuSE 10.3) I want to backup my internal disk to an external disk connected via eSATA. The internal disk is ext3, the external disk is FAT32 (I want

Strange echo phenomenon (double tandem)
I have a strange problem with echo. My setup includes a Grandstream HT-488 which is both an FXO and a FXS. I noticed last evening that if I called the FXS through my asterisk box from my cell, the resulting connection was fine for me at the cell end, but produced dramatic and conversation ruining echo at the FXS of the HT-488. Today I realized that if I call out from the same FXS to my

strange phenomenon Word and Excel
Hi there, Just installed Samba 2.0.7 and it works without a hitch. Almost!!!!!!!!!!!! The weird thing is that when I click on a MS Excel or Word file in the NT explorer the application starts and opens the file located on the Samba box. The thing is it takes about 20 secs or more for even a very small file (50K) before it is opened. If I close the file once it was opened and click on another

strange phenomenon on CPU affinity
Hello, My testing machine has 2 quad-core CPU (It supports hyperthreading, but i disable it in BIOS). I uses Xen 4.0.1 as the hypervisor. When I use 8 VMs to conduct a test, CPU affinity of the VMs is very strange. Like this: vm_name vcpu_num cpu_affinity Domain-0 8 any VM1 4 1,3,5,7 VM2 4 1,3,5,7 VM3 4 1,3,5,7 VM4 4

Xen and bonding on Centos 5.2
Hi folks, I am stuck with a weird phenomenon. I have set up two servers as xen servers with bonded interfaces (mode 1). The bond interface works fine on both servers as long as xen is not used. When using xen's network-bridge script (with netdev=bond0), one server works fine without problems, and the other starts upping and downing th...

Muted calls occasionally dropping after 30 seconds
Hi I'm having a very odd phenomenon happening on our production server (1.4.17 and using realtime). Sometimes a call will disconnect 30 seconds after the SIP phone hits the mute button but it doesn't happen all the time. I've done a sip debug while watching this happen and that doesn't show anything other than a BYE m...

ECHO Tutorial
Is there anyone that could explain to me the phenomenon of Echo or at least point me where I can learn more? Why is this affecting the VoIP world so much and not the regular PSTN analog world? What does the PSTN industry have that they can handle such high volume of calls and there is "no" echo problem? Thanks, Daniel

astonishing memory phenomenon
I have a question concerning memory. I understood that R takes a fixed amount of memory at startup (which I can influence with --vsize --nsize) and that gc() shows the memory still free of the total memory reserved for R. However, if I create a long vector of character data, gc() only seem to reflect the space needed for a vector of pointers to char, the space used for the character data itself

Mail server problem?
...list this morning (my time). I only posted each posting *once*. I hope that others are not getting repeated copies of my postings .... I mean I *know* my postings are so wonderful they merit re-reading, but one does not need another copy in order to re-read! :-) Has anyone else experienced this phenomenon of multiple acknowledgements for a single post? Are people getting multiple copies of my postings? (If so, sorry 'bout that, but I don't think it's my fault.) cheers, Rolf Turner ###################################################################### Attention:\ This e-mail m...

"if" within a function
Dear Friends. I found a puzzling phenomenon in R when you use 'if' within a function: # defining a function aaa aaa=function(a) {if (a==1) {aaa=1}; if (a!=1) {aaa=2} } # using the function: > b=20 > bbb=aaa(b) > bbb [1] 2 > typeof(bbb) [1] "double" > > > c=1 > ccc=aaa(c) > ccc NULL > typeof...

An optim() mystery.
I have a Master's student working on a project which involves estimating parameters of a certain model via maximum likelihood, with the maximization being done via optim(). A phenomenon has occurred which I am at a loss to explain. If we use certain pairs of starting values for optim(), it simply returns those values as the ``optimal'' values, although they are definitely not optimal. With other starting values, optim() goes off and finds a reasonable, optimum, and seems...

Speed differences for windows clients
Hi, we have a strange phenomenon with the transfer speed between windows clients and samba servers. Here's the setup: server 1: centos 6.3 with samba 3.5.10 server 2: centos 6.4 with samba 3.6.9 both servers are configured as BDC and have - aside from netbios name - identical smb.conf which contains ldapsam as backend and a...

What happened if install a el7 package on a el6 system
Hi, Recently, I encountered a interesting phenomenon that CentOS 6.3 running as normal even if I (my colleague, actually) installed a kernel that build for CentOS 7.x (e.g. kernel-3.10.0-327.el7.x86_64.rpm). I found kernel is mismatch accidentally when I using "uname -r" to check kernel version. So my question is what the harmness we will...
