pgadmin and Centos 5?
I've been fighting to get the latest source of pgadmin compiled on Centos
5 64-bit.
I obtained gnu-c++ (so it was happy with g++). It then complained about
wxWidgets, so I obtained the source for that, compiled and installed, and
./configure for pgadmin saw wxWidgets and was happy with that. Go to
make...
It complains that some header file is m...

Odd characters at beginning of file
I'm use RPostgreSQL to access data on a Postgres server. I would like to
keep my SQL statements in external files, as they're easier to write and
debug in pgAdmin, then I use readLines to bring them into R and feed to
dbGetQuery.
Here's the problem. When I create a SQL script with pgAdmin, then load it
in R, the ensuing script fails when I feed it to dbGetQuery. When I inspect
the string in R on Linux, it *looks* OK, but fails. When I inspect the
string...

OT: good admin gui postgresql on OSX?
Hi,
I recently bought by first Mac and I''m looking for some alternatives for
my windows applications.
Does anybody know a decent gui admin app for postgresql? On windows I
use postgresql manager:
http://www.sqlmanager.net/en/products/postgresql/manager
I find this a very good piece of software and it''s free, even though I
paid a little for some extra features. I''d

R, PostgresSQL and poor performance
...ql)
# -----------------------------
All variables are reals other than id which is varchar(10) and date which is a timestamp, approximately 1.5 million rows are returned by the query and it takes order 10 second to execute using psql (the command line client for Postgres) and a similar time using pgAdmin 3. In R it takes several minutes to run and I''m unsure where the bottleneck is occurring. I don''t believe it''s in the database access as the query disappears from the server status (of pgAdmin) quite quickly and where it only takes ~10 seconds from psql. I''ve o...

If I select my date column from the pgadmin I see that in the ddmmyyyy
form, I''ve specified so in the postgresql config. When I query from
rails I get the date in yyyymmdd someone knows why?
Thanks

W2K3 HVM with gplpv shows strange pings

Asterisk Unregisteres IAX Friend Randomly
...server unregisters the client (sets regseconds to 0 in the database) after a seemingly random time after registration say, 15 seconds (which is 45 seconds before registration expiry)
I set iax2 debug on, and set the core debug level to 5 so I could see the IAX2 control frames on the console.
I use pgAdmin-III to watch the value of regseconds in the database change from a registered value to 0.
When the "unregister" happens, there are no frames sent to / received from the client, and nothing else on the asterisk console. It just seems like asterisk decided to unregister the client for no r...

RODBC and sqlColumns

Error in sqlSave(db, aDataFrame, "X.test", T, F) :
[RODBC] ERROR: Could not SQLExecDirectS1000 7 ERROR: relation
"test" already exists
but if I change the input table to be different....then R can create the
table, but fails to populate it. I checked the db in PgAdmin and the
table is created by the sqlSave call. All this stuff works if I don't
use a schema "schema.table". So it appears there is something wrong in
some place dealing with understanding the columns for tables in schemas.
Any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you....

SQLite primary key schema

Take as an example my ''users'' table. In Postgres the schema is

id serial NOT NULL,
login varchar(80),
"password" varchar(255),
created_on timestamp,
updated_on timestamp,
avatar varchar(255),

Postgresql vs MySQL
Is there any reason to avoid using postgresql for small web apps? That is, is it''s
overhead so large that the lighter MySQL will work substantially better for small apps on
small machines? Or are they very similar in performance and configuration?
I''ve used MySQL but postgresql has its appeals and I''m wondering if I need to keep MySQL
around at all.

AR::Base.pluralize_table_names doesnt work with scaffold generator, right?
...ine. Then I have to edit model/Somthing.rb and inlcude
the set_table_name "Something" into the class definition, rename my
table back to something and also fix the test-classes because they got
generated with the somethings name. Seems to be a bit error prone to me
and very unelegant. pgAdmin makes the sql part easy, but it still feels
a bit strange to me.
Wouldnt it be nice if this automatism could be turned off for the
scaffold generator on request and we would be able to specify name of
the Model, name-as-is of the table, and maybe even name-as-is of the
primary key - and then t...

Saving long character variable to database saves timestamp instead
...f", stringsAsFactors = FALSE)
The longest variable wasn't saved correctly:
> nchar(testdf$chars)

[1] 30000 19
A timestamp was saved instead:
> testdf2$chars[2]
[1] "2010-09-18 00:00:00"
A simple look in the database, e.g. with pgAdmin, reveals that there is
indeed a timestamp in the database rather than a variable of 35000
characters. PostgreSQL claims that there is no limit to the length of text
in a text variable, so where does the time stamp come from? Any ideas on how
to avoid it and get all 35000 characters?
BTW. In my ODB...

Passing bigint (8-byte) values from Postgres to R using RPostgreSQL
...Postgres table to
generate a record that autogenerates a bigint unique ID (basically, a
customized bigserial value). When I query the table to retrieve the bigint
value, the value returned is not the same as the value created in the
database (as evidenced by a direct query of the database table via pgAdmin).
e.g. the value created should be an 8-byte integer (specifically
2007111600000100000). However, the value returned in R is different
(specifically 2007111600000100096). For every bigint value, the value
returned is the value generated by the database + 96.
An example of the code to obtain the...

PostgreSQL database design tool
Been thinking about playing with PostgreSQL. When I did my research, on
the PostgreSQL site, there were a few tools they "recommended" for

Open System Architect seemed to fit my demands, but unfortunately, the
installation documents do not exist, at least the links go in a circle
to nowhere. There's a binary which I assume can be executed, but at

Installation of Mdac
Hi list,
I am trying to install MDAC with Wine. I have installed cxoffice, and
when I start the installation of MDAC, it tries to get the free space on
the disk, but it doesn't proceed from there. I don't have a clue how to
solve this, but I want to run PGAdmin under Linux, zo I need this MDAC.
Please can you point me in the right direction?
Kind regards,
