!$!$!$!$.pfr and others
Hi! When I started Wine (some Jan. 2001 version), it moved some directories from my windows partition, renamed them and made them write-protected. As I ran down Linux and restarted Windows, the moved directories still were there. I had to rename them and to move them back. How can I tell Wine not to mess up my windows directory structure? Thanx Stefan

Pfr tmp files, FreeBSD and Linux
I currently have 2 samba servers (3.0.25a) one running FreeBSD 6.2 and the other running CentOS 5. Both are setup the same and using the same smb.conf. The FreeBSD server works great, no problems. The linux server works great too except on logout. When a user goes to logout, windows errors with "Windows was unable to save all the data for the file prf*.tmp. The data has been lost. This error

Renaming of Program Files folder
Has anybody else experienced a problem with Wine renaming the Windows Program Files folder to !$!$!$!$.pfr and (seemingly) creating another empty copy of Program Files elsewhere. I have experienced this problem twice while running two different versions of Wine (the last one CodeWeavers 20010305-1). Naturally, Windows takes exception to this and won't run. The information I have is :- Linux Vers...

Corrupted Program Files Directory
...rked, which it did fine. I had also run my ACR program (see prior post) in debug mode to see if I could get any other ideas about get it to function proberly. Then I notice that my Program Files directory is empty? Eventually I find all the contents in this new directory called "!$!$!$!$.pfr" which contains some additional directories with "corrupt" sounding names? This is a bigger problem than I want to mess with; so whatever I'm doing I want to stop immediately. Thanks

Regression trees with an ordinal response variable
Hi, I am working on a regression tree in Rpart that uses a continuous response variable that is ordered. I read a previous response by Pfr. Ripley to a inquiry regarding the ability of rpart to handle ordinal responses in 2003. At that time rpart was unable to implement an algorithm to handle ordinal responses. Has there been any effort to rectify this in recent years? Thanks! Stacey On Mon, 2 Jun 2003, Andreas Christmann wrote...

Trouble with WINE
Hello folks, I have the most recent version of WINE (20010305), and have been trying to run it with no luck until now. I have tried some very simple programs like notepad and solitaire, and both don't seem to work: all I get is a sh*itload (a REAL sh*itload) of font-related fixme's. Meanwhile, the system's load average increases, reaching a point where even the X server goes down

Wine and damage of original MS Windows
...ome cases of users reporting file corruption. Do NOT run Explorer, for instance, if you don't have a proper backup, as it renames/cripples several directories sometimes. Not even other MS apps such as e.g. Messenger are safe, as they launch Explorer somehow. This particular corruption (!$!$!$!$.pfr) can at least partially be fixed by using http://home.nexgo.de/andi.mohr/download/decorrupt_explorer" ---- Do you have any idea how to protect original Windows without backup? Or is the backup the only solution in this time? Thanks for hints, Petr

Question
Is there a way to prevent other users from being able to map a drive from windoww95/NT to anyother user directory on the system. For example I can map to anyone's account on the system and have read only access, is there a way to stop this in either the global or share level? Thanks
