LDAP, checkpwnam and PDC
...as created, but Windows said user name cannot be found. I resolved this by adding ldap to /etc/nsswitch.conf, but this has the side effect of allowing ldap users to login to the server via SSH. Whilst I can understand the need for LDAP users to be accessible to the system, i.e. checkpwnam etc for permisisons, I don't want users to be able to login to anywhere except the client Windows 2000/XP boxes. People (only 3) who can login via SSH already have "real" user accounts in /etc/passwd etc. Is there a way to stop this being allowed? Thanks. Ben

nova-compute, libvirt and authentication
Hello I have a question about live migration when libvirt requires sasl authentication. I have managed to configure remote access for user nova with sasl enabled (credentials stored in auth.conf - https://review.openstack.org/#/c/12706/). It looks like live migration do not use these credentials at all. What is more it thinks that sasl is not not configured: 2013-07-01 09:49:09.317+0000: 17997:

Still can't figure out ACL issues
Thank you for your reply. If you happen to read the post of 11/22, you will notice that it was not me who spoke ill of Samba. I put my bets on other people being able to figure it out; I hope that one of them will help me. Sincerely jimc

GateKeeper, Model Level Permissions Management
I''m pleased to announce the official release of "GateKeeper". GateKeeper is a Rails plugin that provides easy to use methods to declare access permissions to instances of ActiveRecord classes at the model level. Permissions may be based on either a user''s roles (such as Admin, Moderator, etc) or on associations with other models. In most simple and straight forward

Files missing (not hidden)
Hi there, I have a samba install on centos 5 with the latest version of samba (samba-3.0.33-3.28). There were two files that just disappeared. The users description is as below: I had worked on them ? both were excel files that linked to each other. I saved it as a different name than the original I worked from (which I found to be very ?buggy?) ? the originals are still in their respective

Dovecot fails to come up when using ACLs (1.0.b5)
Hi, I just had a go at enabling ACLs with 1.0b5. As per the docs I've done the configuration bit: protocol imap { .. mail_plugins = acl } ... plugin { acl = vfile:/usr/local/etc/dovecot-acls } and created the dovecot-acls file. When I start dovecot, it hangs for a few seconds and dies with this: [root at redback root]# /etc/init.d/dovecot restart Shutting down IMAP daemon

No more logs after SVN?
Hello, Yesterday I "subversioned" my app using svn and now everything works fine except I don''t see any log entries in development.log? What would cause the log entries to be not produced anymore? Thanks Frank --------------------------------- Bring words and photos together (easily) with PhotoMail - it''s free and works with Yahoo! Mail.

Problem with ZFS and ACL with GDM
I am the maintainer of GDM, and I am noticing that GDM has a problem when running on a ZFS filesystem, as with Indiana. When GDM (the GNOME Display Manager) starts the login GUI, it runs the following commands on Solaris: /usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx, mask:rwx /dev/audio /usr/bin/setfacl -m user:gdm:rwx, mask:rwx /dev/audioctl It does this because the login GUI programs are run as the
