...could not hear the motor spinning. After leaving it in the freezer overnight the motor spins but it is not recognized by my computer. I disassembled it and could see that the head assembly rests outside the disk but when it is powered on, the head first moves to the center of the disk, then to the periphery and finally back to the resting position. This happens every few seconds and leaving it connected overnight changed nothing. I installed smartmontools but the disk is not even recognized by my system as a /dev/sd* device and therefore not accessible to smartd (at least as far as I know it.) Any s...

Another +1 from me. The llvm-dev and cfe-dev lists are both firehoses and a lot of people on the periphery of the community don’t subscribe to them for this reason (which is not a negative, it’s a sign of a healthy and active project). A lower-traffic list for everyone in the community would be very useful. David -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... Name: smim...

Constrained optimization
...e distribution functions of continuous random variables" Technometrics, 25, 77-86. 1983), Cheng and Iles describe an ingenious method for placing confidence bounds on an entire cdf by defining the likelihood ratio confidence "ellipse" for the model parameters, and then traversing the periphery and finding the most extreme values for x, at a given F(x), such that the distribution parameters reside on that confidence contour. (Well, their method is more sophisticated than that, but that's essentially how it works.) I implemented the thing in a spreadsheet 15 years ago, and would like...

Tyan K8SE (S2892) / nForce Pro Experiences
Has anyone installed Linux (CentOS or other) on a Tyan K8SE (S2892) motherboard? I'd really like to hear your experiences -- with this board or Nvidia's nForce Pro chipset in general. I'm looking to build a new server using this board but would like to find some other experiences first. I've googled myself blue but haven't found any reviews or postings regarding this

pxeLinux on an Intel SE7501WV2 with 82546EB
All: I have recently discovered pxeLinux/memdisk and have been using them without alot of pain in a somewhat unconventional setup.. Win2k DHCP server and tftpd32 on WinXP. Don't throw rocks at me - you use what you've got. Anyways, thanks to HPA for a great tool. I am running into an odd little problem now for which I was wondering if there might be some remedy. On a particular

A long digression on packages
...ch of the documentation in packages materializes, it's become mighty hard to work out if the function you don't want to write has already been written. We also spend a lot of time responding to or deriding correspondents who ask about such things. Would it be an idea to have informal R periphery teams, or even individual package lords, who would bear with, or maybe welcome, other people's functions? That is, I think plotrix has been greatly enhanced by recent contributions. Conversely, I wonder if it would be possible to shrink or maybe even evaporate concord by discovering duplica...

Hi Folks, Here is my attempt at a simple polar plot. > pos <- seq(0,360,by=5) > tspk <- rep(c(1,0,1),c(13,47,13)) > require(plotrix) > polar.plot(tspk,pos,rp.type="s",point.symbols=17,point.col="green4") I only see half the symbols, the other half of each symbol is hidden under the circular grid. In fact if I change rp.type="r", I see the

SweaveInput and absolute paths
Hi, Is there a way to turn off the automatic inclusion of "./" at the beginning of a path specified in an \SweaveInput{} instruction? I'd like to create some reusable "template modules" of Sweave code and put them in a standard directory like /Resources/Affymetrix Then the corresponding file that uses one of these would include a command like
