Sensitivity to sounds with frequency
Hi,
I've looked in various FAQs and web pages for this info, but just can't
seem to find it.
When two tones of two different frequencies sound equally loud, what's the
(rough) relationship between their power? This is for percussive sounds
in music, but I assume it's roughly the same for all sounds. The ear
seems more sensitive at high frequencies. For example, when you

Re: [PATCH] virtio_net: set default mtu to 1500 when 'Device maximum MTU' bigger than 1500

c't listening test: Ogg problem at 128kbps
...initely not close to
the original. Listening to it again, I can confirm the difference I
heard, although maybe I wouldn't put it in last place this time.
The passage I based the Ogg/Vorbis 128bps decision on is from "Love at
First Sight" by Kylie, and it's simply so that the high percussions
seem to have too long a decay time compared to the original. It's thus
probably not a frequency response problem but effectively sounds like
one.
I tested Ogg/Vorbis again simply by encoding the reference file with
oggenc from 1.0, at default quality. It has exactly the same
problem. If I go t...

not hearing the starts of words when encoding
Hello all. I am able to programmatically decode speex just fine (playing
others' encodings), but my encoding eats the beginning of words. If I encode
a word that gradually increases in volume, like "wonderful", I hear
"nderful", but if I encode something percussive like "beep" I hear almost
all of it. It's as if the modeller does not detect the start of a

oggenc rc3 fails on this one
OggEnc rc3 has trouble with this file. It adds high frequency gunk
to the percussive synth part. Lame encodes it fine.

How to specify sample sizes?
Hi,
quoting the vorbis doc
"Vorbis frames may be one of two PCM sample sizes specified during codec
setup. In Vorbis I, legal frame sizes are powers of two from 64 to 8192
samples. Aside from coupling, Vorbis handles channels as independent
vectors and these frame sizes are in samples per channel."
I want to explicitly specify the sample size, so, how can I do it?
Can I set min_size

A further comment on 1.2-RC6
Running on UBUNTU 10.04 current to recent hours.
When running Simcity 4 Rush Hour with a very small suite of plugins, sometimes the graphics goes haywire. The early symptoms are RGB + black squares appearing here and there. As this develops, graphic objects start to take on primary colours. I've never let it go to a crash.
Sometimes restarting the game fixes this. You can tell because

PreBeta4/First Results
Hi there,
I encoded the hard to encode piece ":wumpscut: - mother" with the new
prebeta4 encoder (windows). As I crashed my harddrive I've to reinstall
linsuxx again and double check the results, maybe there's a difference
between the platforms (as far as I remember there was such a thing before).
This song is pretty good for fast listening-tests as there are plenty of

RC3: I'm impressed
...ot;-q 0" is eminently usable, with only marginal
defects for normal usage.
Already sent money, will do that again.
* * *
I spent at least 40 hours in the last week testing RC3. I selected a few
fragments from pop, classic and jazz CDs in my collection, covering piano,
harpsichord, voice, percussions, cymbals and complex arrangements. Also,
downloaded a few samples from the Net.
I listened to them with a decent Sony headphone, and looked at them through
the spectrograms of CoolEdit2000 (have yet to find a good audio editor on
Linux). I was able to see many more differences than to hear them...

make lo-fi sound as good as RealAudio?
Can someone who really knows the Ogg command-line encoder, help recommend the best setting for 33.6k modem stereo music streaming?
(56k doesn't count cuz many people's 56k modems don't work at a full 56k, and I want them to be able to surf CD Baby at the same time as listening. 2 minutes / 120 seconds of audio should be about 400k.)

This thread has raised several good topics. It's surprising that the

several good ideas to discuss.

PWGL in wine, problems
Hello,
I'm new on this list. First of all, thank you to all the developers of this
great project!
At the moment there is only an application that keeps me on both macos and
windows, its name is PWGL a free environment for computer assisted
composition in openGL. (http://www2.siba.fi/PWGL/)
I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and wine 0.9.59.
I have to say that I also installed vcrun2005 and

(Classical) Request for Standardization of expanded TAGS
A month or two ago I sent an email to this list proposing to expand
the list of "standard" tags for Ogg Vorbis. No tag would be required,
but if you wanted to encode certain types of information about a file,
you could use a standard tag.
I went through the whole discussion, and revised my proposal in light
of all the comments from everyone. Here is the updated proposal.
