MMC and Permission view
I'm charged to investigate the usage of samba as a file server in a Windows
network with WinXP machines and Active Directory as authentication system.
I experience some problems to let it work correctly.
I can't add some share on the linux debian (2.6.7 with ACL backdoors)
machine with the MMC plug-in. When I try I get access is denied. The
security tab on the winXP machine doesn't

question on gps.prof in ismev
Dear all,
I'm trying to produce a log-likelihood profile for a GPD estimate with
the ismev package. When following the examples, everything is working
fine, i.e. I get a nice parabolic log-likelihood curve. When using my
own data (intensity of hurricanes at landfall), the log-likelihood curve
looks like a step function. Am I doing something wrong here? Is my data
not suited for the GPD fit?

the following fields and append to a Calc/ Excel spreadsheet. Given the
volume of articles I have to work through, if this can be iterative and
semi-automatic, that would be a god send and I might be able to do some
actual research on the articles before I reach my pensionable age. :-)

How might one write this better?
I am trying to simulate the trajectory of the pension assets of one
person. In C-like syntax, it looks like this:
daily.wage.growth = 1.001 # deterministic
contribution.rate = 0.08 # deterministic 8%
Wage = 10 # initial
Asset = 0 # initial
for (10,000 days) {
Asset += contribution.rate * Wage

rpart results - problem after oversampling
Hi all,
I am trying to predict a target variable that takes values 0 or 1 using the rpart command. In my initial dataset I have few positive observations of the target variable; therefore I have oversampled the rare event by a multiple of 6 (i.e. from 762 to 4572).
However, in my results, I end up with a number of positives in one of the terminal nodes that is not divisible by 6. As I have the

regarding this but no answers unfortunately. I am wondering what the
setting is where I can increase this time out value of 10000
milliseconds in case that specific request is just slow. This is called
many times a day and only just occasionally fails.
I have looked through the entire manual for smb.conf and can't find a

choosing systems
After many helpful suggestions from many including Brian Ripley, Peter
Dalgaard, Martin Maechler, Douglas Bates, and Tristan Savatier--it is clearly
time to upgrade my system from SPARC-10 Solaris 2.4. Rational choice of
configuration should be based on intended application and perhaps the fact it
is my pension, not my university, which now finances my research.

Apologies for bothering you about a fairly trivial matter. I have been
getting some inconsistencies with the display digits in R V1.5. I have been
using the hypergeometric distribution function, and have found that when

I can not find information how to configure a share to allow everyone read

Now my smb.conf looks like:

Using R and the Tidyverse for an economic model
I've been translating an economic model from Python into R, and I thought
members of the list would like to see a presentation I've written about it.
I've blogged this at

I'm trying to sync from 3.0.5 to 2.5.5 (SCO, *sigh*) The source
machine errors out b/c the --remove-source-files (or
--remove-sent-files) options don't exist on 2.5.5.
But, since these option are only acted on by the sending machine (which
is where I'm typing the command line), it would be so nice if the source
machine would NOT pass the option on to the receiver (or at least, not
