PXE booting BartPE ISO file to Eee Pc
...;ve been playing with this for hours and still unable to get everything working properly. In short I'm trying to boot an ISO image created by BartPE over pxelinux. When I attempt to do this it goes directly to a blank screen that just has a blinking cursor. Here's what my setup looks like: pebuilder.iso - the ISO file created from BartPE using WinXP SP2 CD as source but with ramdisk.sys and ramdisk.inf replaced (sys file in i386\System32\Drivers inf in i386\INF) from an extracted Server 2003 SP1 download (used 7zip to extract) I've copied setupldr.exe into the root of my TFTP server and r...

pxelinux and bar
...t a bartpe image successfully using pxelinux or does anyone know if this is impossible? For those who don't know, bartpe is a legitimate way to make a trimmed down installation of Windows XP or Server 2003 using your installation media. For more information on bartpe see: http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder Basically the pebuilder gathers the minimum files needed to boot into a 32-bit windows kernel and adds some functionality like a desktop and so forth and puts them into a build environment. In most cases, people just use the build environment to create a bootable CD ROM with bartpe on it (via...

Planning a 2.08 release
It seems that quite a bit of stuff built up very quickly after the 2.07 release: Changes from 2.07 to 2.08-pre6: * Add new configuration command "ontimeout" to allow timeout to have a different action than just pressing Enter. * Add new configuration command "onerror" to allow a custom command to be executed in case the kernel image is

Using PXE to Boot CD Images?
Is it possible to chain isolinux and memdisk over pxelinux? If it's possible, I'd like to boot a CD Image over the network. I've been using pxelinux to boot ltsp for years, and recently upgraded to take advantage of memdisk for booting a DOS hd-image. Ideally I'd be able to boot a CD-Image. Thoughts? -- <:3)~ Michael T. administering an MS Windows partition under Linux
Hi all, If I have a dual-boot machine (Linux and Windows) would I have any good tools under Linux that would allow me to look at the content of the Windows boot partition, administer it, clean up the registry, remove viruses if any, etc? The Windows installation seems to be so defective as to be quite useless so I am trying to think of a good strategy for dealing with the situation. Thanks in

ISOLinux Windows / linux Install DVD
I am trying to create a DVD with ISOLinux as the bootloader to allow my users to select to install either Linux or Windows. Having read the article http://syslinux.zytor.com/archives/2002-October/001135.html i am left in a bit of a confused state as it sort of half explains things. All i think i need to know is: 1. What files are needed to boot windows? 2. Where do i have to place the

Large files timeout
I am trying to download a 200MB ISO file and each time I attempt to do so it will timeout after around 30 MB. I've used both a Microsoft and a FreeBSD tftp client with the same results. When PXE booting a pc and letting it download the ISO it either hangs halfway through or the ISO appears to be corrupted when trying to boot to it from ramdisk. I am looking for suggestions on how to

Loading syslinux from a USB HDD
Thanks Nazo, for that amazing long answer. The problem is, though, that you're talking to an _XP user_, so I can't: "Just use dd with if=/dev/sda" because that's Dutch to me. I even had trouble understanding what a "distro" was, till I looked it up. And I can't run "mkdiskimage", because it doesn't run under XP. Also, according to

OT: BIOS upgrades and booting without a floppy drive
I've got a machine running CentOS 3.5 with an Intel D865GBF motherboard and I've been having an occasional "event" where disk-intensive activity (such as running "yum check-update" or starting up OpenOffice) causes the load average to spike and X11 to become unresponsive (as in, the pointer won't even track the mouse) for a few seconds. The machine always recovers

BartPE over PXE
Turns out that I did not have a corrupted ISO file and tftp-hpa is not at fault. I had saved the winnt.sif file in a unix format and for reasons that are not clear this was producing the error message telling me txtsetup.sif is missing or corrupt. One would think the parsing of the file would cause the inability to locate the ISO file to be downloaded since that information is the last line in the

Dual boot box: WinXP & CentOS 5: Impossible to restore WinXP?
We rarely use M$ Windows, but I let my daughter surf pbskids.org while using Windows and a Trojan Horse modified or deleted the user32.dll file. I found the instructions on the Microsoft Support web site, and it would be very easy for me to expand a new copy of user32.dll if I could get the MS WinXP CD to work. It boots OK, I press a key so it will search hardware and it then has hard drive
