rsync 2.6.9 on OS X. files with xattrs don't retain mtime.
I'm really excited about the recent work on extended attributes. I've compiled 2.6.9 with xattr support, and run a few tests. It seems that if I have a file with an extended attribute ( a resource fork in this case), and I run rsync -aX , the mtime is not preserved. Example: stat xattrsrc/a 234881026 2894399 -rw------- 1 admin staff 0 1048576 "Nov 10 10:03:01 2006" "Nov

you got chocolate in my peanut butter?!
Hey everyone, Ran into something positively perplexing today. A user came to me and said that this morning when they checked their mail, they got about 120 strange new messages. Upon further inspection, it seems the "new" messages are all addressed to a certain other different user and are all 3 or 4 months old. And looking in that other user's /var/mail/(username) mailbox, I see

Optimum Block Size to use
Hi All We use CentOS 6.6 for our application. I have profiled the application and find that we have a heavy requirement in terms of Disk writes. On an average when our application operates at a certain load i can observe that the disk writes / second is around 2 Mbps (Average). The block size set is 4k ******************* [root at localhost ~]# blockdev --getbsz /dev/sda3 4096

Just a question on how things are going
Hi Jean-Marc, I was just wondering if maybe you would consider a "blog-like" text file in the codebase where you just jot down your thoughts about why you are making a change, and where you think you are headed. For example, I noticed today that you completely removed the pitch prediction code. It would be nice to know if you did that because you're moving away from using it as

IBM invests $ 10^9 in Linux, maybe they'll sponsor Vorbis?
Hello Vorbis developers, you probably had the same idea already, but maybe IBM is interested in sponsoring Vorbis, or being your patron. If they are going to invest $ 10^9 in Linux, protecting vorbis from harm, and possible injecting resources into that project would be peanuts to them. I don't know if IBM does anything with multimedia, but they could only gain if strong technology in that field (digital audio/video codecs) were available for Linux. They certainly are a match to fraunhofer et co. And I would not be surprised if they wanted to employ you right away. Fi...
