rsync 2.6.9 on OS X. files with xattrs don't retain mtime.
I'm really excited about the recent work on extended attributes. I've
compiled 2.6.9 with xattr support, and run a few tests. It seems that
if I have a file with an extended attribute ( a resource fork in this
case), and I run rsync -aX , the mtime is not preserved. Example:
stat xattrsrc/a

you got chocolate in my peanut butter?!
Hey everyone,
Ran into something positively perplexing today. A user came
to me and said that this morning when they checked their
mail, they got about 120 strange new messages. Upon further
inspection, it seems the "new" messages are all addressed to
a certain other different user and are all 3 or 4 months old.
And looking in that other user's /var/mail/(username) mailbox,
I see

Looking for a VoIP solution...
Hello all!
Please forgive me if I am asking stupid questions, I am new to implementing
VoIP as PBX.
I am currently employed at a Tifton, GA-based peanut shelling facility and I
am looking for a VoIP system to tie our 2 locations together.
The plant and the main office were originally separate, so each has their
own (different) phone system.
Each side has 4 incoming analog lines and about a dozen phones.
Now that a fibre has been laid between the tw...

Optimum Block Size to use
Hi All
We use CentOS 6.6 for our application. I have profiled the application
and find that we have a heavy requirement in terms of Disk writes. On an
average when our application operates at a certain load i can observe
that the disk writes / second is around 2 Mbps (Average).
The block size set is 4k

To butt in with a peanut gallery comment - I suspect it's because
liboffload is really just providing a bare set of non-portable API
mostly tailored to OpenMP4. Having it support any other programming
model is probably going to take real work on the part of refactoring
"liboffload". (*cough* *cough* good desi...

That would probably cause a feedback loop as soon as you select the line
-in for capture and probably damage the sound card.
Go look for a cheap PCI soundblaster 128 or something, you can get them
for peanuts these days.

Peanut gallery says: I don't fully understand the use-case or the domain,
but this description sounds unworkable to me.
AIUI, there are two players here: the "brittle optimization" (which relies
on some invariant), and the "transform" (which has the power to break that
invariant)....

Just a question on how things are going
...moved the pitch prediction code. It
would be nice to know if you did that because you're moving away from
using it as a speech codec, or you just found that the pitch predictor
just wasn't making any difference. I realize that such a "blog" might
elicit endless debate from the peanut gallery on every change you make,
so I'll understand if you think it's a bad idea.
Also I was hoping you might give us a sense of how close you think you
are to a 1.0 candidate. I don't want to put you on the spot, but for
those of us that might be deploying a product with CELT soon...

That can be a valid argument. If indeed liboffload is limited by its original design and a new design can be useful to a wider range of model/target...

IBM invests $ 10^9 in Linux, maybe they'll sponsor Vorbis?
Hello Vorbis developers,
you probably had the same idea already, but maybe IBM
is interested in sponsoring Vorbis, or being your patron.
If they are going to invest $ 10^9 in Linux, protecting
vorbis from harm, and possible injecting resources into
that project would be peanuts to them.
I don't know if IBM does anything with multimedia, but
they could only gain if strong technology in that field
(digital audio/video codecs) were available for Linux.
They certainly are a match to fraunhofer et co.
And I would not be surprised if they wanted to employ
you right away.

Re: Livecd-creator is disabling selinux
...ll we could add a label to libguestfs to allow these labels. From
> the running kernel point of view you end up with unlabeled_t.
I think it's more complex with libguestfs because of the appliance,
and because libguestfs normally runs with SELinux disabled inside the
appliance.
[Note to peanut gallery: libguestfs uses and endorses SELinux and
sVirt to implement containment of qemu *in the host*. The above
applies only to the appliance.]
I know you wrote a good blog posting and we have a (very very old)
open bug to fix libguestfs's SELinux support:
