Help with Dell PE2950 and RAID5 setup
I've got a new PE2950 rack system with PERC controller and 6 drives set up contiguously as one RAID5 volume on the PERC controller. Using 64-bit CentOS 4.4, I partitioned for /boot having 100 Meg, swap having 2 gig, and / with the rest (removed LVM). After the install was complete, the system rebooted and just gave me a broken grub prompt (not the graphical Grub boot selector, but

PE2950, RAID 0, failed disk
I have a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with PERC 5/i, and 6 disks. Two disks have one logical volume via a hardware RAID 1 and consist of CentOS 5 64-bit; the remaining four comprise a logical volume via a hardware RAID 0, and is all user data. One drive on the RAID 0 went bad. I removed it while the system was on, tried a reboot, and the system hangs at RedHat Linux... Starting I tried to boot

Asterisk/Machine Hang after calling in/out ISDN
I am testing Asterisk 1.4.22, zaptel 1.4.10.1 and libpri 1.4.4 on RHEL5 on DELL PE2950 and using ISDN-10. I thought about cutting over to production tonight when I noticed a serious problem. SIP calls are fine but if I dialed to outside (Dial(Zap/g1)) a few times or someone called in a few times, Asterisk just froze (cannot enter anything on the CLI console) and then even the machine had to be

Is there real benefits on a SMP machine for Asterisk?
Hi list, I'm now considering to buy a new server for an Asterisk installation, since I've been kindly advised<http://lists.digium.com/pipermail/asterisk-users/2007-October/198146.html>not to use an old server for a mission critical app... Well, playing around in Dell's, HP's and IBM's online stores, I've noticed a lot of Discounts or even FREE upgrades from Dual to

CPU enumeration
Hello, Is it possible to alter how XCP enumerates multi-core cpu’s such that a Vcpu represents a “socket”, rather than a “core”? A server with dual quad core processors, no HT, presents each of the 8 cores as a Vcpu to the guest. Windows Server 2008 R2 see’s each Vcpu as a unique “socket” and we are therefore coming up against licensing issues with Windows and more importantly SQL Server 2008

Hardware infrastructure for email system
Hi, I'm currently (re-)planning my email setup and have been doing some research. I have done some searches and read several threads in the areas of my questions here. While there are some that come close I haven't yet been able to get all my questions answered. I currently run a postfix, dovecot & roundcube setup and have about 2000 active accounts. I have a separate SMTP server

DVD Burner
I've purchased an LG DVD Burner (GSA-E60L) External super Multi DVD Rewiter for my PE2950 Dell Server attached via USB. Can someone guide me to set up the DVD with Linux, and which tools should I use to burn DVD? SMART and Dell PowerEdge 2950?
I have CentOS 5 installed on a few Dell PE2950 systems. ? ?The SMART daemon claims the drives included with the server do not support SMART, which rather surprised me. What, then, are my options for monitoring the health of the server hard drives? ?It would be nice to have some service running I could email to myself on the status of each drive. Thanks. Scott

Increasing NFS Performance
Greetings all- I have a CentOS 5 (Final) system that is serving up content to several other hosts via NFS. The amount of data transferred is rather small as most of the files are under 100kb and each export has maybe 100 files that are accessed regularly. I'm finding that as I add more hosts accessing the NFS server, the performance seems to be getting poorer. There are obvious delays when

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
...g drivers and Megaraid Storage Manager downloads via LSI's site, but I'd prefer not to install a bunch of crapware. All I need is the proper LSI daemon which exports info via SNMP. I've used check_sasraid_megaraid Nagios script [0] in the past for PERC5i and PERC6i controllers in Dell PE2950s. For 2950s I've only had to install sas_snmp-3.11-0003.i386.rpm from LSI to get rolling. I've tried installing parts from the MSM zip/tarball mess to install only the lsi_mrdsnmpd daemon (lsi_mrdsnmpagent). PERC5i = LSI 8048e (megaraid) PERC6i = LSI SAS 1078 (megaraid) SAS6/iR = LSI SAS...

vlans+bonding+bridging
hi, I have to configure Xen server and DomU''s which should be able to talk to different vlans - depending on services put on DomU''s. I would like to enslave 2 NICs via bond interface. Both NICs are on trunk ports which are configured in the same way, the same native vlan. I don''t know, if I have to add vlans tagging to eth* interfaces then enslave tagged eth*

Network performance problem with Xen 3.0.3 HVM/VT
Hi, I know it''s a problem that has already been discussed, but as I didn''t see any solution, I''m asking... We''ve been trying to use Xen 3.0.3 HVM mode with windows or linux in the past few weeks, and have been suffering from bad network performance. First, I must say that we didn''t succed to setup Windows 2000/2003 directly using  Xen, we had to

Boot disk changes from /dev/sda during install to /dev/sdb on first boot
CentOS 4.6 x86_64, Dell PE2950 with DRAC5, onboard SAS RAID 1, 2 arrays. After booting installed system, /dev/sda exists but does not appear to be a hard disk. fdisk -l displays nothing for sda. CentOS is on /dev/sdb and the second RAID 1 array is now /dev/sdc. It's been suggested (in the Dell Linux mailing list) that it is related to the virtual CD device of the DRAC. But why would it

CentOS 4.4 Installation on Dell poweredge 2900 raid 1 + raid 5 fail

Suggestions on XEN configuration with local and remote iSCSI
Dear All, I''m totally new to DRBD + XEN over iSCSI but I need to configure this scenario in order to buy the right hardware. Our department will provide us with an iSCSI target which will be replicated in its own to a secondary iSCSI SAN (probably they will use DRBD). This target will be used, in our ideas, to replicate our own iSCSI san, that we are going to buy. We will probably

What current Dell Systems are supported/work
Sorry for the repost... I don't think the first one posted.. posted to freebsd.stable, freebsd-current, Freebsd-hardware I checked the hardware in the online documentation manual/hardware It only lists the bits and peices of the machine say the hard drive controller and so forth. but doesn't give you a particular system to look at as a working machine with FreeBSD 6.2 does anybody
