HW experience
Hi,
we would like to establish a small Lustre instance and for the OST
planning to use standard Dell PE1950 servers (2x QuadCore + 16 GB Ram) and
for the disk a JBOD (MD1000) steered by the PE1950 internal Raid controller
(Raid-6). Any experience (good or bad) with such a config ?

OT: LSI SAS1068e / Perc6/iR RAID Health
Is anybody here monitoring Dell SAS6/iR RAID health?
I have a mix of CentOS 5.9 and 6.3 installs on the PE1950s.
I'm finding drivers and Megaraid Storage Manager downloads via LSI's site,
but I'd prefer not to install a bunch of crapware. All I need is the
proper LSI daemon which exports info via SNMP.
I've used check_sasraid_megaraid Nagios script [0] in the past for PERC5i
and PERC6i con...

Network Name issue
Hi,
I've installed CentOS 5 on a Dell pe1950 with 2 dual port NICS.
One of the NIC is an Intel and use the e1000 module.
The problem is when the server is rebooted it does no asign the ethx name to the NICs, instead the so assign something like _dev377362...
so i dont have networking on the server.
Any ideas what is happening and how to solve it?
Thanks.

Help 60Hz Hum?
Hey guys,

I am trying to diagnose a hum in my FXO lines
I am using an Adtran 750 with 8 FXO ports. I am getting a pretty bad hum
on the line during a call.
I have checked the Telco side of the 66 block and there is no hum there
so it's my problem to fix.
I have tried to lower the gain but that reduces the call volume to much.
Where else should I be looking?

Setup as follows

XEN HVMs on LVM over iSCSI - test results, (crashes) and questions
Hi all,
some results from my configuration.
I''ve this configuration (I''m not interested in raw top performances but
in reliability.. so, I can accept slow MB/sec and prefer to rely on a
RAID6, for example):
1 Infortrend iSCSI Array A16E-G2130-4 with:
- 1GB DDR cache
- RAID6
- 7 x 500GB sataII Seagate ST3500630NS with 16mb (no budget for SAS)
- one of the logic volumes (about

3TB External USB Drive isn't recognized
We have a 3TB external USB drive that I am trying to attach to some CentOS5
servers. I have tried an older Dell PE1950 and a newer R310 but neither one
seems to be able to read the drive. It works no problem on windows
servers/workstations and I was able to format with NTFS.
I know there are different methods for formatting large disks but this one
doesn't even seem to show up as a /dev/

IO causing major performance issues
Hello everyone.
I'm wondering what other people's experiences are WRT systems becoming
unresponsive (unable to ssh in, etc) for brief periods of time when
a large amount of IO is being performed. It's really starting to
cause a problem for us. We're on Dell PowerEdge 1955 blades - but this same
issue has caused us problems on PE1950, PE1850, PE1750 servers.
We're running

random "monitor socket did not show up"
Hello gentlemen!
I just experienced this weird thing:
I have 2 machines (one is a Dell Pe1950 with 2 Xeon 5130, the other is
a Fujitsu RX200S6 with 2 Xeon E5645), both run CentoOS 5.6, the DELL
has the 2.6.18-238.9.1.el5 while the Fujitsu runs the

Dear All,
I'm having an intermittent problem, with dovecot slowing to a crawl.
Restarting dovecot fixes the problem.
Looking at the maillog, I see loads of these errors....

SYSLINUX 3.85 released
Syslinux 3.85 is a bug fix and minor new feature release. The biggest
change is undoubtedly that gPXELINUX is now considered feature
complete, and should be able to be a drop-in for PXELINUX for all uses.
Special thanks to Intel Corporation, my current employer, for their
support for my Syslinux work.
Changes in 3.85:
        * gPXELINUX: updated to gPXE 1.0.0. gPXELINUX can now do NBP

Image file or partitions over an iSCSI?
Dear all,
I will setup soon an Infortrend iSCSI SAN device with a raid6 volume and
a DELL PE1950 (8 VMs) with a Qlogic iSCSI HBA (server to be duplicated
at later time for redundancy).
My priorities are:
1) VMs on the iSCSI SAN in order to boot them also by another server if
the first one fails
2) performances
3) live migration is a non mandatory option (i.e. I can suffer to

Syslinux 3.85 chain.c32 problem solved
Thanks to debugging information from Thomas Mieslinger, I have
root-caused the failure of chain.c32 in Syslinux 3.85. I have put out
Syslinux 3.86-pre1 and Syslinux 4.00-pre33 which fix the problem.
I expect to release a Syslinux 3.86 relatively shortly (ideally in the
next two weeks), with bug fixes only. I would like to figure out if
there are other bug fixes we can get in in reasonable time,

No difference.? What is aggravating, though, is virtually every howto on
bridging out there refers to the deprecated brctl utility (from the
bridge-utils package), and C8 no longer includes that package (even

James' point isn't the hardware cost, it's the people cost for
retraining. In many ways the Fedora treadmill is easier, being that
there are many more smaller jumps than the huge leap from C6

Performance Issues: I/O Wait
Hey, everyone,
I''m having some issues with a Xen DomU right related to performance. We have an application that cross-compiles a Linux distribution from scratch for embedded systems. We''re attempting to run this application inside a Xen DomU (paravirtualized, modified guest kernel), and the performance is really bad. The culprit seems to be high I/O wait times related to the
