Samba 3.0 question, DOMAIN vs. SERVER method? Help!
Hello all!
We are attempting to get Samba-3.0.10 working on a new Solaris 8 machine in
preparation for upgrading an existing 2.2.8 installation (both use the
SMCsamba packages from SunFreeware.com). We copied over the smb.conf file
and the usermap from the Samba-2 installation, and seeing some weird
symptoms when Windows users try to connect to the new machine.
We ran "net join" to

I've got a samba 3 box that's part of an AD domain. It works correctly
for most users; but there was a problem where certain users couldn't
connect. We'd get a log message that looks like this:

Newbie configuration Q
Hi,
I need a v simple samba setup in order to share files between a
Windows AD network (W2003 server) and a SCO Unix box. Samba is
installed, albeit the oldish version which comes on the SCO CD - v2.2
IIRC.
A user (any user) can login to unix, run a program which generates a
file in the /shared folder. This needs to be accessible to a program
which runs in windows from anyone's PC (or

mount read/write ntfs via samba
Until now, we've been using samba to push out unix files to windows users.
With
Security = domain, this works perfectly. Now we'd like to go the other way
ie mount
on the linux side our PC files. Using
mount -t smbfs -username=administrator //pc-server/users /PCuser
works but all files appear to be owned by root so users can't write to
their own files.
I can add dmask=777,

Help needed with Windows7 roaming files.
Hi all,
We've been trying to setup/upgrade a samba PDC (version 3.56) with OpenLDAP
as backend and roaming profiles for Windows7 (32bit) Clients. windows7 has
no problem
with login after applying the reg patches, however, it seems to always load
a temporary profile as opposed to roaming one for users, no local profile
is created.
this has caused Outlook 2010 to function improperly

Samba 4.6.7 AD, Netapp CDOT 9.2 and missing "Domain Users" membership
Hi,
we are testing a new AD domain that will replace our old NT4 one, and we
are setting up a new cifs vserver of our Netapp filer (running Clustered
Dataontap 9.2).
The new AD domain was a clean deployment created using "samba-tool
domain provision --server-role=dc --use-rfc2307 ...".
All seems to work well and the Netapp filer joins the domain without
errors and seems to run fine.

nt acl support
Hi,
I am currently putting together a smb server,
the client requires a single share where he can add
and remove read/write permissions for any user using
acl permissions from his win2k machine.
I have created a share, made him "admin user"
however ---- adding & removing ACL permissions
per user is impossible.
The error's that I am currently receiving are :

valid users list file
Hi all,
I'm using valid users parameter in my smb.conf to allow certain users to
access a shared services but the list of the users are increasing. Is there
any possibility to put the names in a file and mapped the file to this
parameter or any other alternatives?
Thanks,

IIRC there was a discussion recently on this list about the interaction
of this option with the "write list" and "read list" parameters, so you
should perhaps also play with this ones.

homes directory visible only for one user
Hi!
I'm kinda new, so i'm wondering how should i configure [homes] section, so
only two of many users (e.g. "user1" and "user2") could see it shared in
network (so only those users could access their homes)?
thanks in advance, andrej

the move a user can not write to the shared folders. When the file is

select read/write access by user or group?
This should be simple, but I've been pounding my head against it for
several hours, and I'm not getting the result I want.
I'd like to be able to select shares, whether they are the root of a
drive or /home/username and designate who can read and who can read/write.
Does Samba have it's own groups to go with it's own users?
I really can only use "security = user"
