Inquiry:External USB modem and Remote PC Access?
...checked for the presence of internal modem on my
CentOS server , as the followings :
#dmesg |grep -i modem
#lspci |grep -i modem

According to the output , it seems that my CentOS client does not contain

PcAnywhere
Hello my name is Jared Skinner. I don't know about any of you but my only
hurdle to overcome that inhibits my switching totally to Linux is
pcanywhere. My job requires me to use it and believe me I have tried to sway
them to VNC. Does anyone have a howto on how to get it to work via wine???
If so I would greatly appreciate knowing where I can get it. Thanks in
advance Jared

Does weight route and nat make sense ?
After many attempts to get weight multipath routing
to work reliable on my NAT firewall, I am beginning to
think, maybe it simply does not make sense to combine
them together.
I get various kinds of problems with this configuration,
especially with long-connecting session ( eg PcAnywhere ).
After various investigations, my conclusion is that
PcAnyWhere has a mechanism to "detect" frault connection.
Since in the case of weight route used together with NAT,
the remote PCAnywhere system will think that from time to
time a different public IP is trying to connect to the a...

IPSec pass through
...1)
So a windows client with checkpoint tries to connect to a vpn-1 server
on the internet. The securemote client can connect and the windows
client can even ping the private network at the other end of the tunnel.
So far so good. When the windows client tries to run an app through the
tunnel (i.e. pcanywhere) no connections can be established. Any ideas ?
I have been through all the groups and docs available (checkpoint docs,
howto''s, freeswan docs, shorewall docs) and after trying it all still no
luck. What I find odd is that the client can ping the private network at
the end of the tunnel...

Linux can't telnet to WFW 3.11
My server is RH 5.2 and i use Samba 1.9.18p10 and the client use WFW 3.11 with
tcp/ip protocols installed. The subnet and the IP Address is right but I still
only telnet form WFW 3.11 to Linux...not the reverse. On Linux telnet is
working. I've checked it through this cmdline "telnet localhost 23 or telnet
127.0.0.1" . And I also testparm smb.conf and nothing wrong happen. FYI I set

I've been trying to get a Win 2000 RAS server working with my asterisk PBX for quite some time, to no avail. I've googled, I've tried loads of configurations, I've rewired phone lines, and still I am not winning the battle.
Here's my config.
PRI->T400P->Asterisk->T400P->Adtran 750(L36 Firmware)->RAS Server.
I have 4 Zap channels signalled FXO_KS to the 750

Advice please - best hardware/config to combine 3 ISPs
...two types of users.
Office: Office workers, mail system, file sharing, Point of sale.
Guests: several computers for guest use, WiFi access points for guest''s
own laptops. Internet traffic is mostly browsing, IM, fetching email.
Externally I have:
VPN users accessing computers via VPN or PCAnywhere.
Mail users reading via squirrelmail
Myself accessing via SSH for maintenance.
Currently I have a M0n0wall firewall running on a Soekris 4501 for
internet 1 which works well but does not allow me to use multiple ISPs.
I would like to replace this firewall with a Shorewall box with 4

Multiple program instances or multiple log ins?
This all comes out of figuring out how I might run Evolution like I run Eudora.
I see where Evolution places its data in a hidden directory: ~/.evolution
Now why it is felt necessary to put all of this stuff in hidden
directories is beyond me.
So it would seem that Evolution is treating each useid as a
personality for the logged in user.
Given the way Evolution organizes its data, I could

X-Windows client for MS-Win2K
An intermittent need to connect to a CentOS4 development box from a
MS-Win2K workstation using X-Windows has developed here. However,
I cannot seem to find a cheap (read free) X-windows client for MS-
Windows to accommodate this. This seems very odd to me, displaying
no doubt my profound ignorance of the issues involved. The few
shareware versions that I have located expect registration
